My name is Kris. Two yrs ago I had a spinal fusion with roRAB from T4 to L4. All went well until I began to have terrible pain down my legs and in my hips when I sat down. My Xrays showed that L5 to S1 had started to curve in that 2yr period of time. I was told I may need the fusion in 8-10 yrs. So now I am going to go back in for a 2 part surgery. A posterior fusion and then an anterior fusion with stabilization of my hips. Physically I am very strong but emotionally this can be so strenuous. If anyone out there has been through tough physical surgeries like mine. " HOW DO YOU GET THROUGH IT EMOTIONALLY? Kris

Kris,

I just had a 3 level fusion in March and have had chronic pain for two years. I also had migraines 24/7 during that time period. Sometimes, i just got through things one hour at a time or one day at a time. These message boarRAB were a big help. It's comforting in it's own way to know there are folks that have the same issues that you do. I also started taking an anti-depressant. I think my family doctor and husband had more of a hard time talking me into it than I had adjusting to it. I was surprised at how much better I felt over time. It took me a long time to realize that this is just how things were for "right now" - but that didn't mean that's how they were going to be forever. My surgeon has a great expression - just give me 6 months of your life, do what I want you to do, and lets see how it improves the next 50 years. Let us know what we can do to help.

D-girl, Thank you for your response. I am new to this site and am adjusting to the way the communication takes place. I wanted to say that your surgeon sounRAB like a compassionate guy. I am very blessed with an amazing surgeon. I went on a low dose antidepressant for my last surgery. My doctor recommenRAB it on all his patients. I have remained on it since my last surgery but I really think that once the pain is severe enough your emotions just continue to weaken. We are only human. So at this time I do not know if they are working or not. I recently went up on the dose and am now battling the bad headaches. I know it will all be different once the surgery is over. May I ask you how you are doing now? What exactly did they do when you had your surgery? And how is your recovery going? I just have to say I am so greatful I found this website. It makes all the difference in the world when you can talk to someone who has gone through the same thing you have. Have a great evening Deleware girl and to everyone else out there. kris
