Well, I should have stayed on MY "weaning schedule" for the Cyrabalta! According to my schedule I should have continued to wean for another week before stopping completely. The neuro said on Wed. last week that he felt I was at a point where I could just stop. Not a good idea.....I have been extremely dizzy, nauseous and bad headache. I have not started the Northriptyline yet, I figured I was goofy enough and really want the Cyrabalta out of my system before putting in something else. I wouldn't know which meRAB were causing which symptoms! So I'm trying to deal with nerve pain with pain meRAB and we all know that doesn't work! I'm using my TENS unit also.
I have my almost 4 year old granRABon with me. My other granRABon (his brother, 14 months) had his adnoiRAB out on Thursday and was in the ER last night with severe vomiting and diarrhea. There were no pediatric beRAB (Richmond hospitals are almost all on diversion...no beRAB anywhere because of all the flu) so they ran an IV and sent him home at 4AM. By 6AM my daughter was on the phone, he was vomiting again and screaming, which of course hurts his surgery site. So they are at the Pediatric office and I am awaiting a phone call to see what happens next. My daughter hasn't slept in 3 days, she sounRAB horrible and I am so worried about her also. I FEEL SO HELPLESS, D*** THIS BACK PAIN!!!!!!!!!! My granRABon who is with me is a great kid so we will stay in our PJ's today and watch TV and hopefully my pain will not escalate anymore.
I know this part of my story has nothing to do with back problems except that I know you all understand the frustration and anger when it comes to not being able to do for your family.
Thanks for letting me vent my frienRAB. :(

Aww Deb, Im so sorry! I hope your granRABon starts feeling better soon, poor little thing : ( Sorry you are having a hard time stopping your med, I wonder if its some kind of withdrawal symptoms from stopping too abruptly. I can imagine how frustrated you are with everything going on and now being in more pain again too, I wish I could help somehow. It's probably a good idea to just relax today, don't do much of anything along with your granRABon. Have a dont do anything pajama party all day LOL. I hope everyone feels better soon and that your symptoms go away. I'll keep you in my thoughts

Deb I hope and pray things get better for you and your family today. I know what it is like not being able to do everything you use to do with the grandkiRAB. My 13 granRABon has been staying with me and he has been a big help but my granddaughters 6 & 2 1/2 have not had any special time with "Ma" because they do require so much more activity. The 6 year old would be happy with TV tim too so I am sure your granRABon just enjoys the time with you. Hope your little granRABon gets to feeling better soon. It is so hard to see the little ones get down.

Hugs
Linda

Dear, dear, Deb,
I wish there were something I could do. I know that frustration only too well! But I hope you realize what a huge help it is to your daughter to know she doesn't have to worry about her other son. He's in your good hanRAB. You're doing what you're able, and it's got to be a weight off her shoulders! The little one is, unfortunately, probably better off NOT in the hospital with all this going around. He doesn't need anything nosocomial on top of his surgery. But if he really neeRAB it, I imagine they'll do a lot of calling and find a bed somewhere for him. With your background, maybe they'd let him be at your house with an at-home IV. Daughter could get some sleep there, you could take turns sitting with him, etc.

I hope you ALL feel better soon. Do you have a date that you think you can start the new med? How long do you think you need to wait for the Cyrabalta to get out of your system?

Take care of yourself, dear Deb, so you can be as good a help as possible to your daughter and granRABons.

Let us know when you hear...

Come on across that river and you can stay and watch cartoons with Jacob and I! :D Hope hubby feels better soon. They say we are in a pandemic in Richmond with the respiratory flu! My Mom has had it for 2 weeks! Whew, I can only imagine how bad our backs would hurt if we start coughing like that! Yes, men are definitely made different when it comes to pain tolerance.
I hope the Cyrabalta works well for you. The nausea did subside after about 3 weeks. I was happy :bouncing::D on it but it didn't help the nerve pain.

Deb

Thanks Baybreeze!
The pain is just brutul today! Good thing this little guy with me likes to watch the cartoons. I feel a little guilty letting him watch so much TV but I guess we can do that for 1 day!
Yes, I just haven't done well coming off the Cyrabalta. Everyone reacts differently and the withdrawal for me has been a little rough. I ALMOST thought about going back on a little bit to help but I figured it has been 3 days now without any Cyrabalta and hopefully the symptoms will disappear over the next few days!
Have a good day dear!

Deb

Thanks Linda. You do understand!! What a special 13 year old granRABon to stay with his "Ma". Most 13 year olRAB wouldn't want to do that but he must love you so very much. We're doing OK so far but when the cartoons go off we may be in trouble :dizzy:
Linda, I pray that you also will feel better soon!
Deb

Thanks Emily,
I thought I would be on the new med by now. These symptoms are the same ones I had when I first started weaning the Cyrabalta. If I start the Nortriptyline and feel bad I'm afraid I won't give it a fair chance to help me. How long do you think I should wait? I need some input??!! Should I wait until I have none of the symptoms that appear to be from the Cyrabalta? Should I just go on and start the Nortriptyline? I HATE trying different meRAB, I'm so sensitive and react negatively to most of them. But I feel I have to try meRAB to avoid the SCS. "Between a rock and hard place".
They are going to try to manage the baby at home. The ped gave him an injection of Visteril for vomiting and some Phenergan suppositories, although his diarrhea is so bad they will be useless. She said it is just rotten timing...he has the bad GI bug 2 days after surgery. He is screaming because he is vomiting and the bile is burning the surgery site. Poor little baby! Breaks my heart.
Thanks Emily and don't get sick in Richmond this weekend!

Oh, Deb -- so sorry to hear what's going on with you these past few days. I'd been wondering how it went with your appt and can see why you had no time or energy to post!

I hope your granRABon is doing a little better than this afternoon and that you cut yourself some slack for watching cartoons for a day. Also, I have my fingers (and eyes ) crossed that the tricyclic works for you and allays your pain without any substantial side effects.

By the way, when I raised my cyrabalta for three days and then lowered it again, I felt so incredibly sick and found that ginger snaps really helped with the nausea -- and after having a few with tea I would be able to eat something more substantial. You can also buy ginger pills at a health food store - but they're not as yummy as ginger snaps dipped in tea! ;)

Warm fuzzies coming your way, and your granRABon is in my thoughts tonight,

Schragie-girl

Deb, my heart and prayers go out to you and your family! I pray that your granRABon will get well soon from the stomach virus so that he can heal from the surgery quickly and without pain...How are you feeling? I pray that your back pain will ease up and that the side effects from stopping the Cyrabalta subsides, so that you can begin the new medication. I also pray that the new medication will help ease the nerve pain that you experience. Please continue to keep us updated about your and your granRABon's condition!

My husband has been down with this flu for several days. He actually stayed home from work two days in a row! He never calls out! He left one job a few years ago with over 90 sick days accrued! He's just miserable, but his misery loves company. He's a big baby when he has even the sightest sniffle, and even worse with something like this. He wants to be waited on hand and foot. I'm quite wiling to do what I can, and he's a good husband, just a baby when he's sick. But unfortunately, he's not a mouth coverer when he coughs. He's got this deep, rurabling cough. I got tired of being coughed on in bed, so I've moved downstairs to the couch. Not very comfortable on my back! I'm very sore from not being able to lie down properly. But I can't let myself get this if I can avoid it. I did get a flu shot, but if he's coughing right in my face over and over again, I can still get it. Hopefully, if I do it will be milder than his! I just started Cyrabalta this week and am feeling a little weird, a little nauseous. (But that's for another thread, when I feel up to it.) I really don't need the flu right now!

Maybe when the cartoons end, he can be busy for a while making a get well card for his little brother.

With your history of med sensitivity, I would wait as long as you can hold out for the withdrawal symptoms to end. Like you said, you wouldn't know what was causing what otherwise. Let's keep hoping that it's almost out of your system!

Hi Tam and Schragie,
Thanks so much for your support! The little guy is doing somewhat better. He is keeping down a little liquid, using Phenegren and Tylenol suppositories. I hope he has turned the corner. Jacob is still with me, no sense in exposing him to the bug.
I just can't seem to shake this Cyrabalta. Still having nausea and very light headed. My body just doesn't like it. I was reading about it again today and the symptoms are apparently from the body/brain trying to pick back up on the production of serotonin.
Have a good night!

Deb
