Rosetta Stone in the Army?

Hello =]
I am in the army, and my recruiter told me that the army gets the Rosetta Stone software for language learning for free! hahaha
but I was wondering, when could I get to use Rosetta Stone for free in the army?
And does using this program mean I have to be active duty, or can I be in Reserves?
Thank you!! =]

Use AKO...however...

I have studied Japanese and Korean for quite some time...and Rosetta Stone sucks. It will give you a passing glimpse of the language you wish to study...despite the hype. It is akin to watching anime as your exclusive introduction to the Japanese language. it helps, but it won't work all by itself. There is no "easy" way to learn another language. DLI took me over a year...to get a basic understanding of Korean. That is 40 hours a week of intensive immersion study...and I am by no means fluent.

Your best bet is to find a sensei (teacher) of Japanese...as an example. Nothing can replace actually using the language daily, with real, live people.

If you are just casually learning, Rosetta Stone can help. If you want to truly learn the language, you will need formal instruction. The same is true of Pimsleur, etc.

Enjoy using Rosetta, especially if it is free for you...but don't expect anything more than a VERY basic use of the language.
