I know rooted phones r no longer under warranty but isn't warranty different from paid insurance? If I pay for it shouldn't my phone b covered even if I'm rooted!?

If the phone can b unrooted they'll never know. I wouldn't worry bout it.
Insurance covers you if u damage or lose it. Warranty covers phone defects.

Yes, paid insurance covers loss, theft and damage. I bought it on my N1 since I rooted it and voided the warranty. On XDA now there is a one click root that doesn't unlock the bootloader and your warranty should be intact as all you have to do is a few adb commands to get it back to stock.
