Rolling Stone Magazine's Top 500 Albums

I also thought it was weird that Stankonia made the list from Outkast, but Speakerboxxx/The Love Below didn't. Andre 3000 did some really inventive stuff on his album, and Big Boi's was a solid album.

Also, if you notice, this music forum allowed a kink in the language filter system to censor the G, A, and Y in Marvin ***e. Unbelievable.

Rolling stone puts more focus on older music while nme puts more focus on more recent music. But its still all better than Q, Which just puts all its focus on Kurt Cobain and U2.

I have (or have had in the past) close to 100 of those on that list. Even for some of the stuff I don't even like, I can see why it would warrant being on the list (I can appreciate someone without necessarily liking it), but some of the newer stuff on the list is still heavily debateable...

Here's some of my disagreement with the list though...

I love U2, but the last GREAT album they ever did was Achtung Baby and All That You Can't Leave Behind is weak overall (a few good songs, but as an album overall, not so good IMO).

Nirvana perhaps belongs on the list, but Nevermind at #17?

Eminem...?

And Moby's Play is quite a good album, but I dunno if it belongs on even a top 500. Ditto for the Eurythmics and Coldplay (and I LOVE them both, don't get me wrong, they just aren't GREAT).

And, unless I missed it, where Tori Amos? If anything, Little Earthquakes was a remarkable album and was very influential (and I'm not a big Tori Amos fan).

Also missing: Tears for Fears' Songs from the Big Chair.

I'm far too biased on this and truly its too soon to tell in the bigger picture, but Sigur Ros' Takk... might warrant being on this list...

Just my $0.02!

They should've just done an all-rock list, rather than music in general. Because they really don't seem to know a whole lot about music in general. I mean, come on...how did any Rolling Stones album have a bigger impact than Miles Davis' "Kind Of Blue"? And how is Nas' "Illmatic" not even in the top twenty? Nuraber four hundred? It's pretty much universally hailed as one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all-time.

Oh. My. God.

So let me get this straight. Sgt Peppers, Revolver, Whats Going On?, Pet SounRAB, Highway 61 Revisited and Rubber Soul are all trash?

Damn, I used to think you were just ignorant, but now I know that you're genuinely stupid. I mean that comment would be hillarious if you didn't like the Counting Crows, but the fact that you do makes it all the more funnier.

Someone wrote in to the editor following this issue and they said that barring the GH albums would prevent artists from being included that predate the album era when only singles were released.

RS only deals with music prior to 1995.

Tell us how many albums from the rolling stone 500 you have and also talk about your opinion towarRAB it.
I agree with some of it. But how the **** did coldplay come in there. Their are millions better albums than coldplay :banghead:. And dollitlle shoud of came in the top 50.

:whythis:Those are all great albums. I love how creative Outkast gets with hip-hop. The Marshall Mathers LP is like a horror movie in music form, and Mathers makes alot of good social commentary on Eminem Show. Even if you don't like the White Stripes' music, if you respect music for what it is, you have to appreciate the lengths he goes to in order to create original music, and The Strokes' Is This It was once billed as the album that would save rock and roll. I don't understand how anybody could write off all of those albums unless they haven't heard them.

Yeah, definitely, The Wall is one of the most overrated albums (some good indivisual songs here and there, but overall as an album its not really so great). I'd have to second you on Meddle, a much better album...
