Roland keyboard and MIDI question.?

I have an old Roland D-70 keyboard which for a while wasn't working, but i was able to restore it by using a USB to MIDI cable to restore the RAM with all the original factory voices, patches, etc.

Now I have the cables and I want to do more. I realize that this keyboard was not made to be connected to a computer, but so far I've been able to use a program called Virtual MIDI Controller to play some new voices through the keyboard, but I've had a problem with the voice on the keyboard playing at the same time. Also, the voices on this program are very limited and, to my knowledge, this program doesn't support plug-ins and there is no way to alter the voices or find more (they are compiled into a .bnk file).

So I guess my question is what can I do with what I have. I've tried things with other programs, but either they don't work with my equipment or I'm just not using them right. I've tried one called VSThost meant for running VST plug-ins, but can't get anything with that. I'm not interested in recording, just experimenting with new sounds, or if possible, loading a whole new bank onto the keyboard itself. Anyone can help with any of this?
