Rogers to Virgin Mobile number ?

I just bought a phone from Virgin yesturday. Now i wanted to keep the same number that I had with rogers and the girl told me I could, but now my Virgin phone wont work, and it says its not "activated" even though it is (on a 2 year plan) Also my old rogers phone still works (Im not cancling the rogers phone, im just going to pay for the plan until its over. Please help, this is making me very mad.
The rogers plan is a family plan which my mom is still using.

When you transfer numbers, like what you want to do, your Roger's plan will cancel and depending how much is left on it, you may have to pay a termination fee.
