Rogers PVR 8300HD USB Port?

I am going to be getting a Rogers PVR 8300HD soon and I was wondering what the usb port on the back of the hardware was used for. I have seen it before but not sure what it is exactly for. I heard it was for hooking up an external hard drive which I am pretty sure that why but my main question is, using the USB port, can you transfer the recorded shows from the receiver onto the USB so you can watch recorded tv on your computer? If not is there any way to transfer recorder shows on your computer from the rogers PVR?
 
It is for "future use". All they are good for is charging things.

The hard drive to extend recording capacity connects to an eSATA port.

Fat chance them letting you digitally copy content from the DVR.
