Rogers isn't going to lower data rates

So I was looking into prices for a new BlackBerry and a cost of a data plan. And I found that there is an increase!!!

25 MB is now 70 dollars for new customers.

The current rates page hasn't been updated. Just the new customers page.
I don't know if anyone in Canada will ever see a lower price in data for wireless devices... So much hoping that there would be some decreases in rates by year end.

I suggest that Canadians who live near the US border make a run for the border to get service. With the US & Canadian dollar being about egual now, it might be cheaper.

Ouch!! And for the people were complaining about Verizon. At least in the US they offer unlimited for every carrier. amigo might be right with. But then again I know nothing of Roger's calling plans.

I called a Data CSR and he thought it was an error. He was going to flag it to his manager. I doubt it is an error. I'm looking at maybe moving to Telus... How bad could it be :P

You can go to whatever carrier you wish in Canada, their all the same, no one offers any BETTER data plans then the other, they all mirror each other...and Rogers has no reason to drop their prices..their data footprint is not big enough to make it worthwhile to them, they don't give a flying you know what about the customers...al they want is your money....the only sure way to get a good data plan in Canada for BB is to pack your bags and move to waterloo and hope to god RIM gives you a job...second option..pack up your bags move to Halifax and hope to god RIM gives you a job..lol

I had an interview for Domino support with RIM in Halifax a few months ago... Didn't get it A few friends of mine work there... And even RIM execs believes data rates are too high in Canada.

But I was thinking... That one has GPS and the extra 10 bucks was that... But tried to buy a pearl... Still 70 bucks.

I talked to a few rogers management staff yesterday and I worked some info out that Rogers is attempting to bring out an unlimited data plan in the first Q of 2008. Now this is just speculation. The couple people I talked to say it could be a move to bring in the Iphone. Who knows but I am for sure making some calls today to try and find out more.

cheers

That would be nice to see! An actual change in the data market where Rogers puts more BlackBerry handhelds into customers hands...

@Einherjer you work for a Rogers retail store? How often is a customer coming into a Rogers store and buying a BlackBerry a week? And how many regular phones are you selling compared to smart phones.

Just wondering...

I sell smartphones to those who need/want them. Most people freak out when i talk about the mp3 player on a regular phone. Imagine if i'd present them a blackberry that can get emaisl in REAL TIME!!1 omg! heart attack for sure!

Don't expect lower prices, you can however expect better bandwidth allowance on the current plans.

Most people think all carriers are waging a price war and i like to burst their bubbles. Heh. Rogers is not trying to be cheaper.

There is more people in the state of New York than in Canada. You can NOT expect to ever get same price as americans. Start making babies!

that is the point in that? once you get a US phone you are going to be on the Canadian tele Co's network anyways. LD charges will be thru the roof

nice try
