Rogers and my feeling of their lacking...

Rogers loves having its customers paying through the nose for service... the 0.5 and 1 MB of data plans are a joke... 25 MB and the $5 doubling is nice... Why not just have it at a dollar a MB for the first 25 MB and then .50 cents for each MB over... That way you pay for what you use... Not this pay for an allotment of data and hope not to go over it...

~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~you people complaining about the prices need to step back and think for a second. In Canada, with 30m people, 65% of whom use cell phones, its a tiny market compared to the states. More people in a smaller area means lower costs of operating and there for lower prices. And to the first comment that data plans haven't been updated in 5 years, they were just changed within the last year. Your complaints and theories are full of misinformation and ignorance. In all fairness, not everyone works for a telco, so I can't expect you all to know prices and changes and the market as a whole. But find a educated sales rep or customer service agent and get all the facts before you climb upon your soap box.

So just because the market is smaller we should have to pay more?..that makes no sense I live in Canada and am a CDS (consumer data support) rep for cingular and a Rogers customer, Data is like a goldmine to telco's, only true cost is upkeep of the network and since u proclaimed it so well that the network is ''tiny'' in comparison that cost should be lower when it comes to maintaining the network, in turn costing the customers less in the long run,Rogers dont charge more because we have a tiny footprint, they charge more because they know they can, if u want GSM service, what other carrier u gonna go to in Canada for that, Where I live (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) Rogers is the ONLY GSM provider...all complaints abt Rogers Data prices in my mind are legitimate...their insane.

"....the plans we have are the ones we offer..."

I have been a writer for over 30 years - and that is one of the finest examples of double-talk I have ever seen! ROFLMA!

FWIW, we can complain and whine and rant and rave all we want. Nothing will happen until Rogers decides it will happen.

That's just the Canadian way. We love to speak, we seldom act. If we decided to hold a protest in front of the Rogers offices on York Mills next month, exactly how many people do you think would show up? You could count them on the fingers of one foot. We're just so used to being trampled on by the federal government, the provincial government, city government - the Canadian "masses" will never "rise up and overthrow", or even speak loudly. That wonderful social gathering known as The Boston Tea Party could never have happened in Canada.

I write several "protest" letters every month. Always to a specific name. Always as high up in the food chain as I can determine - President, CEO, etc. Often by registered mail. Sending "complaint" emails? Don't waste your time - the secretary's or assistant's Delete Key usually takes care of those.

(You still believe that our ranting and raving will make a difference? Want to discuss the price of gasoline......?

Yeah I never did get much of a reply...

So I sent another...

I don't expect anything but a canned response. it doesn't cost me $7.47 to send a letter registered to some high up manager that will look at it once and toss it. I do get a ticket number from the customer support. They have processes for complaints they follow. Thus doing my part to ask for change.

We'll see what happens this time. Prediction... nothing!

1. I don't blame you for not wanting to waste money like that. However, I'm old enough and financially secure enough that I splurge on things like that on a regular basis. (I don't do Starbucks )

2) I never mail anything to a "manager" - only President, CEO, CFO, etc. And always to a specific name. Emails? A waste of time, IMHO, and I'm talking from 30 years experience in public relations. Sure, once in a while they may generate a "form letter" response, but most of the time they get deleted by an underling. Same thing happens to email "petitions". We've tested it all. Snail mail and fax are still the way to reach the decision makers. I have a client, a CEO of a major corporation, who doesn't even know how to use emails and refuses to learn. Believe me, at that corporate level, he is not the minority.

3) Doing your part is what it's all about. Good for you. That's the reason I do it - not really expecting a response, just knowing that at least I wasn't part of the Silent Majority.

4) If we're talking about Rogers, you're right. Most people have really no idea what a huge corporate monster this is. And in Canada, a corporate monster is twice as dangerous - because the government feeds it.

Keep protesting! Always. Never just "take it".

That is the funniest thing i've read all day! I work the insurance field and know how well the government likes this beast!

I don't know what kind of response I will get but it should be fun! I'll add them here when I get them.

Hey Moridar -

I'm test driving the Verizon with Canada plan (http://blackberryforums.rabroad.com/36223-does_verizon_plan_help_us_canadians.html).
So far it has GREAT coverage in LA, Vancouver and Whistler. Their map shows coverage in NS. The price is much better than my Rogers plan, and you can get an unlimited data feature at $50, or GlobalEmail w/ unlimited data (i.e. up to 5GB) for $65. So far the only drawback (which I don't care about) is no GPS outside of the US. And obviously it's not GSM. But if this works out, I'm going to enjoy pressing that Rogers button "to discontinue your plan press 2."

Good for you.

(If you ever want to start a small lobby group for "officially" protesting the Rogers monopoly on data plans, count me in. Two people who do something are more powerful than a thousand who just talk about it.)
