Rogers 911 Software update for HTC Dream

Okay. I tried:

Calling them and asking for a Network Reset. I told them I had installed the update but I still had no Internet and I had read online that I should ask for a Network Reset. The person I spoke to said they'd do it, told me it was done by batch and might take a few hours to go through. I switched off my phone thinking they may try to query my phone in some way (and find out I hadn't installed the update), and switched it back on in a few hours. No Data.

Today I tried calling them and convincing them they don't actually need to do this to me. I pointed out to them that I didn't have the 911 bug. I also told them they were charging me top dollar for this phone and I considered it to be mine. I offered to absolve them off ALL responsibility regarding issues with the phone and 911, etc. I even spoke to one of their managers. They absolutely refused to accommodate me. They told me I would have to downgrade to 1.5, install their update, and then I was free to upgrade again (if I could do it).

I called them and asked them if I could get a free upgrade to the HTC Magic. I had read online that you can ask them for a free upgrade, activate the new phone, and then simply switch the SIP back when the data was working. Apparently they will do this without charge, but they we start your contract from the beginning again. They told me that I couldn't do it until maybe next week, as they are updating those phones right now and they aren't available yet. This seems like a workable solution, but I'd rather not start my contract over if I can help it.
