Rocky Horror remake

Am I the only one appalled at the idea of re-making the Rocky Horror Picture Show? I can't help but feel it was of its time and a remake could never recapture the mood.

OTOH I did rather enjoy the Dr. Horrible shorts.

No, you're not alone. I'm appalled too. I'm totally sick of this obsession in the film industry to remake anything and everything. Good Lord are they really that short of creative people with fresh ideas?
What the hell do they imagine they can offer with a remake of Rocky Horror? The original is perfect - it doesn't need reworking. If they insist on working on the RH story why don't they write a new script and update the story, it's 30 years later and they return to earth or something?
This has seriously annoyed me!

Add me to the list of people appalled, it's a cult classic that doesn't need a makeover, they may as well remake Grease. Tim Curry's performance in particular was iconic.

They will make an absolute hash of it and ruin it completely. It will become something squeaky clean and no current actor in their right mind would be happy to play Frank N Furter like Curry did.

Hollywood, sort yourselves out and do something original!

I'm the same, like all remakes that I have watched nothing beats the original version. By the sounRAB of it, I'll be shite anyway so I won't be watching it.....

Nope, you're definitely not the only one. I was just reading through some posts over on IMDb and everyone there seems to be outraged by the idea of MTV remaking it.

In my opinion, some things just need to be left alone. This is one of those things.

I've just been reading a list of other films that re being remade. The list is so long, I can't remember all of them, but things like Fame, Short Circuit and Footloose were among them

Remakes are never better than the original, not to me anyway. I think I'll be avoiding this when it does come out.

As it was a stage musical designed to be re-staged over and over again I really don't have a problem with this.

On stage I've seen it three times (two productions but 3 different narrators!)

Why should seeing a new movie version be any different?

I have far more problem with people doing crap cover versions of classic songs because they pop up on the radio and get under your skin whether you like it or not.

But movies are different.

You have to make a conscious decision whether to go or not, and if you don't like the idea just vote with your feet.

It's really that simple!

Now let the cast speculation begin!

Jonathan Rhys Myers as Frank, anyone?!? ;)

Although not a actor, well not a professional one, I always imagined Michael Portillo making a rather good Frank. I dunno why, I can just imagine him in stockings and high heels.

I flip my my middle digit to the arsehole who came up with the idea of a remake, how can you remake of a low budget movie which is a little cheap and tacky which happened to be one of the most iconic movies made?

Leave Rocky Horror ALONE!

I read one of the RAB articles regarding the talk of Poltergeist being remade, shouldn't happen in my opinion it regularly hits the top of polls in that sort of genre so why remake it.
I personally think Rocky Horror should be left as it is.

Totally agree. Personally, I would like to see a remake that restores the 50s B-Movie style used in many/most stage productions.

Much as I enjoy the 1975 film, it just doesn't have the look and feel of an old B-Movie. In fact, it looks like much of its design was lifted from Warhol and Morrissey's Flesh for Frankenstein (1973).

Perhaps it should be in black and white or really grainny colour!?!

Your point is a very valid one, there is so much scope for a further interpretation, providing it's done intelligently! :)
