Mostly the religious wing that thought "rocknroll" was the "devil's" music,most of it was after 1955 but if you're sticking to that year then "rock around the clock" by Bill Haley And His Comets was the song given credit for starting it all.The term "rocknroll" by the way was coined by a Cleveland DJ by the name of Alan Freed, hence the rocknroll hall of fame being in Cleveland.(been there,awesome to say the least).
