Rock and Pop- Quick question/rant? Am i the only one who finds generation Y to

be very dull? The 60s had the Beatles and Bob Dylan, the 90s had Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Like what now? Fall Out Boy and tons of other bands that sound just like them.

Like this generations idea of rebellion is texting during class.There is no form of activism,if we dont like sometimes we just complain about it instead of doing anything. We are like trophy kids obsessing over getting into college at like 12 years old.Generation X was cynical and angry, which lead to great music and art. The youth of the 60s and 70s challenged so many social norms. We dont do anything but homework. I know like 10 year olds who do 3 hours of homework a night.

Sorry about that, just sort of pissed of today.
 
I don't find this generation particularly dull, but the fact is, every generation rejects the ideas of the previous. That's exactly what we're doing too.

I don't think it's fair to say that there's no activism occurring. Notice the increase of vegetarianism and veganism in teens these days? Yes, I know a lot of kids are just doing it because it's trendy, but come on, it's not like there weren't any teens in the past protested war just because it was cool.

I live in California, and there's definitely a ton of activism going on. My school's GSA (which I am a part of) did huge protests against Prop 8 and made brochures and booklets and flyers about not just gay marriage, but gay rights in general. We're still doing weekly visitations, where we walk around neighborhoods and talk to people about the passing of Prop 8 and such.

And for the record, I listen to mostly bands from today, and none of them sound like Fall Out Boy.

I agree that kids don't have enough time to be kids today though. Too much pressure is put on them to do well in school, which is important, but now it's overdone. i assume that has something to do with the economy ecoming sh*t though. It's getting harder and harder to get into a good college because budgets are being cut and schools can't afford to take in as many students.
 
I feel like that almost every day. I feel like I was born in the wrong generation, at times (I even said that on my Y!A profile.). I know exactly how you feel but, every decade has had supid fads that eventually die out. Perhaps, it just seems as though this decade's stupid fads are worse. Luckily, I have amazing time management so I get my homework done in class... and then play guitar after school. : ) Don't worry. It's people like us who are going to save the world from all the crap.
 
Two words- indie rock

Not stupid stuff like the kooks or the killers or whatever, but real indie music. its not mainstream so most people don't listen to it.

there will never be any time like the 60's again. but in my opinion the 90's weren't exciting at all because i don't like grunge. and we have to do work because the standards are higher and the only was you can have a decent life is to go to college. i don't mean to sound arrogant or anything but if you want some good music listen to some indie music if thats what you're into.
 
I AGREE....THERE IS NO GOOD MUSIC NOW A DAYS EXCEPT FOR INDEPENDENT BANDS IGNORED BY THE MEDIA, AND MANY DON´T DO ANYTHING BESIDES SCHOOL AND HOMEWORK.....
I WISH THERE WERE MORE PEOPLE LIKE YOU WHO THOUGHT LIKE ME....
 
It just proves that the government is succeeding in making the population a bunch of sheep that do and believe everything that they say.
I rarely hear much good music from today's bands. There are a few that stand out, but most of them have been around before, or were in other successful bands in the past. Such as"
Blind Melon, a great band from the 90's, that is now re born with a new lead singer.
Scars On Broadway, great album

It's the 'pop' music that sucks, you just gotta weed through the crap
