Rock & a hard place - Fatal Exception has me in a corner!?

I have a T-5 and it is my 4th Palm in six years. I've been able to work thru any problems that I have had over the years but this one has me stumped. After surfing the web via WiFi card yesterday, I launched into another application and immediately received a Fatal Error. The error text was: "memoryMgr.c,Line:3740, Free Handle." A soft reset didn't allow me to regain use of the Palm (produced the same result). I did a hard reset (and then a sync to get my data back) and got another error "Fatal Exception." So it looks like no matter what I do - it ends up with me not being able to use the Palm. I read thru some previous threads on the "line 3740" error but didn't see how I could make it work when my Palm keeps locking up all the time?! What is a person to do - any help would be greatly appreciated!

Try Googling on "memoryMgr.c,Line:3740" if you haven't done so already - there's quite a bit of comment out there on this problem. It's quite possibly a corrupt Prefs file, to judge by a quick survey of the search results.

(I vaguely recall having similar problems with a Palm myself years ago, but can't now remember what caused it in my case!)

There are two possible file issues assuming you've done a hard reset - what you don't want to do after a hard reset is a restore of the saved preferences file and the unsaved preferences file - as these are what will cause the issue.

Do another hard reset - and then from the backup - delete the unsaved preferences file and the saved prefrence file - then allow the restore and a soft reset should re-establish most of the preferences.

The preferences that will be lost are passwords and security settings - which you'll have to manually restore one at time.
