was sorting though some old videos the other day and found RoboCop not seen it for years so decided to watch it and RoboCop 2 and really enjoyed both movies

What chance do you reakon there is for another RoboCop movie? i'd love to see another one even better if Peter Weller played RoboCop again

Wasn't it Orion who made Robocop, and didn't they collapse due to the cost of making it?

My memories a bit hazy on this, as I vaguely remember seeing the film oer 10 years ago on video

The original film was great (plenty of underlying theories to it) but the sequels were just horrid. I did like the funny news reports though. And "Id buy that for a dollar"..

There was talk, a year or so back, that Verhoven and Weller were on board for a new RoboCop movie. Unfortunately I can't find any info at the moment, but, if memory serves, it would ignore The mini-series, the TV series, RoboCop 3 and, I think, RoboCop 2; only the original movie would figure in the continuity. It's all went very quiet, so I assume the idea has been shelved or is in production hell.

Shame, the first movie was pure class and is one of my favourite action movies of all time.

I'm a MASSIVE RoboCop fan, so heres a really long post for you all! Some juicy information for you at the bottom concerning the new film...

RoboCop is one of the best sci-fi films ever in my opinion. Brilliant mix of effects, action and dark humour, and of course, the best plot for any movie, revenge!

RoboCop 2 is an underrated sequel, people seem to think it goes over the top with the violence, but I personally think it's no more violent than the original. Story is very hard to follow as there are so many different sub-plots, but there is no real inclusion of the main thing you would expect, RoboCop and his family.

RoboCop 3 was the nail in the coffin. Peter Weller went off to do Naked Lunch, and Orion were desperate for a sequel, so Robert Burke took over. RoboCop 3 was being made just after the cartoon TV series was broadcast, so Orion was pressured into making the film less violent than the other two. Almost all the language, adult themes and violence were cut out. It was a disaster, and it flopped horribly at the box office.

RoboCop The Series was made in 1994 and although aimed at children, was actually OK to watch. It tried sometimes to be as daring as it could to invlude risqu

The trilogy boxset released in 2002 or 2003 had all 3 movies uncut.

RoboCop 2 aparently has almost 25 minutes of cut footage, most of which makes the story more understandable and explores Murphy's human side, which most people complained there wasn't enough of in the second movie. Hopefully with all the good treatment that RoboCop has been getting from Sony since they accquired the rights, we will see a RoboCop 2 special edition sometime soon.

And if we are really fortunate, we will see the new RoboCop movie released soon too. It is rumoured to be a remake of the original film, so we will have to wait and see.

don't bother with blooming remakes ..... but the whole "childrenisation" of it has all but buried the franchise

just stick with the THREE films IMO

If they did make another RoboCop movie it would be great but for one thing, Ann Lewis won't be able to return as they killed her off in RoboCop 3
which was a real shame and I didn't like the way she died either
wonder what storyline they could have?

If they seriously made another one, which in my mind is a bad idea, (First one was great, second one was OK, third one was tripe), they would have to come up with one hell of a solid storyline.

How about, set it 20/30 years after the abismal 3rd movie, Robocop has been 'offline' in storage as they could no longer afford the funding to keep him online. Meanwhile, Detroit city is at an all time low with crime once again skyrocketing.. the solution.. Robocop comes out of storage as a last hope to bring crime back to its knees. However, Robocops memory is not able to be fully restored, and he's back to his default shoot and kill mode. Ann Lewis, who had a 'secret' daughter, is now in the force and hooks up with Robocop in an effort to jog his memory banks and bring him back upto his former glory. Queue flash backs from Robocops past and memories of his former partner. Also if they did it again, they would have to totally change the suit in my opinion, upgrade it, make it better to bring it upto date also with a bunch of new features. I mean, crime would have also adapted after time right?

I'm no writer, but I am a fan, the movie would have to do justice to re-bring the character back to the bigscreen, R3 was a letdown and a discrace but I do think because of that, the future of Robocop maybe just possible to bring life back to the character

Dave, would you believe that what you described was almost the exact original plot for RoboCop 2? RoboCop gets killed literally at the start of the film, and then we go to decades later when OCP finally decide to pay to have him rebuilt after crime skyrockets again. (Also, Paul Verhoeven said in the 2003 interview that he would use a storyline like that for RoboCop 4, i.e. became obsolete, put away into storage, new threats of terrorism etc. RoboCop brought back online).

The story was scrapped after Orion execs were shocked that the main character dies so early in the film and isn't seen until later in the film, so they ordered a re-write, but the idea was used in the pilot episode for the 1994 TV series, (RoboCop gets shot badly and 'dies', crime rate goes high, OCP are under threat, so they bring him back).

The writers of the original movie wrote the unused storyline for RoboCop 2, and still had the rights to the story of a TV series, if one were ever made, so they decided to use it for that).

Apparently because of the strong sales of the RoboCop Triolgy on DVD, Sony are using the character more as it had practically went unused since 1994, and is still popular today. You can't deny Sony have done quite a bit for the character since they got the rights to the MGM catelogue, and that was only a few months ago, so maybe they are going to do something new for the character and resurrect the franchise...

lol thats quite a surprise! But if you think about it, it's the ideal situation to re-invent the character and to built him up through the course of the movie. To start with him at full operation would mean the action would have to be solid all the way through, however, have him 'evolve' from beginning to end is much more of a preferred way of bringing him back to glory.

Robocop is one of my favorite movies. I really love that evil robot, it scared the crap out of me, i thought it looked so real.
