RoboCop

I found this on RoboCop Archive, which is a quote from Comingsoon.net:

In a follow-up to Wednesday's article on the displays at the Licensing International Expo 2008 in New York this week, scooper 'Compi716' sent us this note about the new RoboCop movie:

So, they will be making it very violent, and with a good director could be really interesting. But, is it going to be real or CGI???

i think the problem is they will just make it too violent with too much gore done realistically just to get people in to watch it. I don't think they will be able to better the original and it seems a waste of time and money

Maybe, but I never got to experience seeing RoboCop on the big screen. The closest I ever got was seeing his cameo in "The Indian In The Cupboard"!. I don't care if the film gets the shittest reviews ever, I still will go and see it on the big screen. It might be the only oppertunity I get, as if it is a flop, they won't be making any more!

I don't want to be offensive but this is the reason we are bombarded with remakes and updates and sequels all the time. You will go and watch it and so will countless others who will say I just want to see how it compares to the original and therefore it will make money and the execs in Hollywood will think it is great and then do another remake.

I'm not in it to see how it compares, I already know the answer to that - it will be nowhere near as good as the 1987 original. But being such a fan of the original 2 films (I know they made a third, I don't acknowledge it), I would love to be able to watch a RoboCop movie in a cinema even if it is bad. The experience would be enough for me.

I wouldn't think the movie execs would be planning on making most of their money from nostalgic people looking to see the character and what they've done to it, I doubt that many people care to be honest any more after what the character has been treated like in kiddies TV series and toys etc. The only way the film will be a success it to have it with lots of technology, bangs and explosions, a bit of gore (because thats what he's famous for) and a damn good storyline. If it was anything akin to how they treated the Batman character for Batman Begins and made it as enjoyable to watch as Iron Man they could have a massive hit on their hanRAB.

It's not clear yet if it is a remake or a re-imagining so they story could be a completely different oe to what we have seen before. But as long as it has a 15 or 18 certificate slapped on it and done by people who care about the character then it might actually be a good film in it's own right and would spawn some more. Who knows....?
