I agree on the song name, but, not the artist, Akira. I believe the version I heard was by Joan Baez. However, there was a song, possibly this one, which I originally heard sung in the 3rd person, by a female "he"). I later heard the song in the 1st person "I") by someone else (male). The 1st person version probably came first. So, if it was this song, your artist may be right.
