Real hollywood maverick he was a great director, made some fantasitic films like the player, shortcuts and gosford park

he will be missed

I know it was universally hated, but I'll always remember Mr. Altman for the 'original' teen movie, "O.C. and Stiggs"; Surreal and yet brilliant IMHO.

He tried new things and sometimes it didn't work. But hey, that's what a maverick does.
Donald Sutherland and Elliot Gould tried to get him fired from M*A*S*H!!!

M*A*S*H and the Player (with THAT tracking shot) are my two faves.

I really thought he was very overrated, a couple of his films are decent but that's about it.

Gosford Park is one of my all time favourite films, so for that alone Robert Altman will be missed.
