Every musician sucks as a solo artist if we know them from a band. Rob Thomas is no exception. His style is different, but he's getting a chance to write music outside of what he was doing w/ matchbox 20. Different doesn't mean sold out, it probably means just the opposite. Come on now...
 
this kind of different means sold out, hes a pop singer now, like justin timberlake, britney spears, etc.

and if you have something as good as matchbox 20, different is most definatly selling out/ retarded

Rob Thomas didn't sell out. The stuff he's doing now is good, the fact that it isn't the same as what he made with Matchbox 20 just shows that he's talented and versatile.
 
exactly, meeker. Rob Thomas doesn't suck and didn't sell out. He has the chance to write a different type of song that works for a solo artist but not for matchbox 20.
And to say that he's pop now and that he therefore sucks... wake up, asshat. matchbox 20 has been pop for quite a while now.
 
Hence the term POP, dude. POP-ular music. Pop isn't really a genre, thats the mistake. Pop is anything that is highly popular, and indeed, matchbox 20 is that. Pop is a bunch of genres combined into what can can be played on the radio under one heading.
And anyways, even if the above wasn't the case, matcbox 20 hasn't been "indie" in quite a while, just so you know. Indie, or Indie-pendant, is another one of those pseudo-genres that combines everything under a circumstantial heading that has nothing to do with the type of music.

Dude, since you haven't noticed, pop is a label which is inclusive of a lot of genres. Describing a song as a "pop song" tells me barely anything about what kind of music it is. It could be brittany, enrique iglesias, anything from matchbox 20's last album, paul oakenfold, even some bullshit bubblegum rap.... there aren't any standarRAB that define "pop" as a genre. Pop is radio/family friendly music which is currently "popular".
Also, I saw the Dave Matthews band at redrock... Good show. Oh, they have songs that could be put into the Pop category as well.
