Rizoma grips vs. OEM

Sorry guys - just dropped my bike off to GMD Computrack guy to sort out some geometry issues, won't get the bike back till Fri afternoon. Thing is I'm using the smaller Rizoma end-caps:

as opposed to the larger heavier weights that actually go with the sportline grips:

I'm not sure if the gap is present on the larger end caps.....

I'll post photos as soon as the bike is back.

for each side. The throttle side was less than the clutch side. I scored a groove around the bars using a plumbers pipe cutter first so the hacksaw followed a nice straight line.

It was one of the easiest mods I've ever done.

DeWog,

My Rizoma grips will arrive on Friday. I agree, cutting the clip-on is not a good choice for me unless I purchase a new set of clip-ons. You can never put the stock back.

The photo will really help, because I have no idea where the gap is. I was thinking why not move the units (I will show with a photo later) toward bar end then it doesn't need to cut to be perfect fit. Let me know if that is good or not.

Is the a good idea guys??

If you're using stock bars this won't work because the locator lugs on all the paraphernalia (switches, lever clamps etc) all pretty much fix the switchgear in place; meaning you either move the grips inwards to meet the switchgear, or outwards to close the gap to the bar-ends.

Of course you could cut off the lugs on the switchgear, but then you run the risk of having the stuff swivel/rotate about the bar (especially the plastic switchboxes)

The position of the throttle tube can't be moved either without moving the assembly (again cut off the lug, or route a longer hole sideways in the bar) - but do you realy want a loose throttle assembly??

Hence the "gap" (effectively 2mm) between the grip end and the bar end is best dealt with by either cutting the bar shorter by a couple of mm (as many have done) or by filling the space with something simple like a large o-ring (my method) I'll try to post picks up when I get the bike back tomorrow...
