RIP Tony Curtis

Not sure if there will be any films of his shown as a tribute but one of his films is showing on C4 next Thursday at 12.05pm. Monte Carlo or Bust was already scheduled so would imagine C4 will now make this a tribute to him.

RIP Tony Curtis-a true Hollywood legend. Loved Spartacus,The Vikings & Taras Bulba, and of course,The Persuaders. I've seen lots of his other movies too like Five Bridges To Cross,Mister Cory,Midnight Story,The Square Jungle,The Boston Strangler etc and think the guy was far too under-rated.

I agree totally that Tony Curtis was very underrated. Just looking at the Some Like It Hot pictures makes me smile. One of the first "old" films I remember watching.

RIP

Great actor who I principally remember for his role in the TV show "The Persuaders", where he starred alongside Roger Moore. RIP Tony Curtis.

ITV4 did repeat it a few years back along with other ITC shows but after showing them all they seemed to settle on the 3 or 4 they now show over and over again.

The Persuaders dvd boxset is great .
I'm going to be having my own Tony Curtis tribute this week and watch a few .
It also has a great documentary on the show which interviews Curtis who recalls many great anecdotes , not least of which was working with Joan Collins on The Persuaders and upsetting her by calling her a c*nt for acting like a prima donna.

That film is long overdue on dvd in the UK.

Fans with R1 playback might be interested in 2 Curtis dvd's that Legend Films licenced from Paramount and released a couple of years ago.

There's Houdini and Monte Carlo or Bust under its correct US title which is Those Daring Young Men In Their Jaunty Jalopies and in its correct 2.35:1 ratio.

Although most people will remember him for his movies; Signalman Bernard Schwartz (his real name) was on board the submarine tender U.S.S. Proteus at Tokyo Bay in 1945 where he watched the Japanese surrender ceremony through binoculars. Apparently, one of his hobbies was remote control submarines.

I agree ! i loved that series and Moore and Curtis worked so well together and were good frienRAB off screen aswell ..sadly missed !

Are you sure you don't mean 'Trapeze' that he was in with Burt Lancaster?

Yes he was injured during the war, in Guam, I think. He then got to go to acting school, as a kind of benefit that serving soldiers were given, upon their return home from the war.

:):) I have a copy of this also, and Spartacus and Some like it hot.

Tony was a vastly underestimated actor, largely I believe because of his stunning good looks. The powers that be saw him as merely eye candy. In 'The Boston strangler', he wore a prosthetic nose, to try and make himself uglier, he was brilliant in that film and never even got a mention at the Oscars, maddening for us fans. I have pictures of him on my bedroom wall and there they will stay, ad infinitum.

R.I.P. Indeed Tony.

Tony Curtis made his best movies during the 1950s and 1960s, then he career faded out after he made a silly beach comedy called Don't Make Waves.

However, he will be remembered for his stirring and comedy roles in The Defiant Ones, The Great Race, Spartacus, The Vikings, and the all time classic Some Like It Hot.

Very underrated actor.

His superb performances in The Boston Strangler and the Sweet Smell of Success were Oscar worthy. He was also very good in the biopic of Ira Hayes.
