Ringtone download problems

Is anyone else using the Kyocera Lingo on Cricket? I have one and love the phone, but cant get ANY ringtones to download or to work on this phone even though according to Cricket's Website this phone is capable of it. I tried calling the 1-800-CRICKET nuraber and all I get is "All customer service representitives are busy, please try your call again later". Is there any workaround for this, or is this phone just useless for ringtones?

I have tried making ringtones with phonezoo..etc. and everytime I try to send it to my phone I get a "content rejected" message no matter what format the ringtone is in.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks

Am I the only one with this problem? I guess I will just buy another phone and get one that will work like I want it. Might go with a Treo or Touch. I just hate to get rid of a phone that works fine other than the ringtone problem. :(

I don't think the lingo even supports MP3 ringtones, that's the reason you get the "Content Rejected" error.

As for downloading the ringtones FROM cricket, idk what the problem is with that. They're probably using mp3 format too and that may be the reason you can't get it from them.

it support mp3 ring tones i blue tooth ring tones to my friend .. all the time... so i know it accepts mp3 ring tones... also since my mogul only has one speaker i make my ring tones mono.. so that might make a difference... maybe not

Thanks for the reply. I have no idea what the problem is. I have about had it with this phone. I think I am about to get rid of it and move on to a different phone.

Thanks again.

This solution is for the Kyocera Strobe which is basically the predecessor to the Lingo but I am sure that it will work with the Lingo along with possibly other Kyoceras as well.
When you go directly into websites for custom ringtones directly from your browser's "go to url" menu item, you will get the "content not supported" or something similar.
The only way I have been able to successfully download MP3 ringers and jpeg images to the Strobe is by using this uploader: http://pcs.cruz-network.net and by going through the google mobilizer address instead of directly from browser's "go to url".
If you are not familiar with this uploader, let me tell you it is the best on the net. It is designed primarily to load a file on the site from your pc and then send a direct link to your cellphone in a text message and that's it, when you go to the link, it starts to download the file. For non-Kyocera phones that most likely works but this uploader also has the option of NOT sending a link and that is the method that is going to work for Kyoceras.
For MP3 ringtones, rename the .mp3 with .qcp and load it with the uploader on your PC(Yes. Your PC at the above URL) by clicking "Browse" and selecting the .qcp file wherever you have your file. Fill out the "File name". Click "Send file".
After this, the next page has a code. You will now go to: http://pcs.cruz-network.net/code.php from your PHONE and enter the code and download the file but remeraber you will not go directly to this address from the phone.
On your browser menu item "go to url" type: www.google.com/gwt/n
This will take you to a screen that looks almost the same as the "go to url". I believe it says "Enter URL". Type in: http://pcs.cruz-network.net/code.php
This is a very basic page. All it has is a place to enter the code for your file and a link called "Get file". Enter the code and select "get file", hit ok and your file should start to download.
I believe you can download any stereo or mono MP3 of any size and bitrate.
I think the optimum MP3 downloaRAB for these phones are with bit rate of 56 kbps and mono. That is the best sacrifice between size and quality. The higher the bit rate, the bigger the file. Also, monos are smaller than stereo.
You do not have to rename jpeg images but you still have to go through the google mobilizer to download.
Hope that works for you.

I managed to figure out the the ringtones I downloaded that I didn't think would play do actually work...as long as I don't have my bluetooth heaRABet turned on. WTF?? The ringtones that came with the phone play fine through the bluetooth, but any downloaded ringtones won't play at all if the bluetooth is on...just when the bluetooth is off. What is the purpose of having ringtones that wont work when your bluetooth is on for those of us that use the bluetooth almost constatly?

Anyone know of a way to get downloaded ringtones to work on this phone when your bluetooth is turned on?

Thanks

Thanks...I tried this and followed it step by step and I get an error "Security Error: Untrusted server certificate"

Won't let me download anything

Was worth a shot

For some unknown reason after renaming the mp3 to a qcp file and sending it through my email from my computer I get a "Content Rejected" message in my email. It won't let me send it to my phone that way either...am starting to get fed up!

Would love to see some more info on this phone, my g/f currently has it and hates that she cant put ringtones on it.
Has anyone been able to get ringtones to work on this phone.

I successfully loaded 3 MP3 ringtones on a Lingo today, one of which was 205kb, 56kbps bitrate, 29 seconRAB long.
One thing that did not work the same as the Strobe was that I had to rename the .mp3 to .midi instead of .qcp

First off, I am assuming you already have some MP3 ringtones (15-30 second clips) on your PC.

This is what I did to get it to work:

ON MY PC

1. I renamed the file that I wanted to upload to .midi
2. I went to http://pcs.cruz-network.net and loaded the file. I put a name for it where it says "File title". Do not put anything in the box that
says "Recipient". Click "Send File".
3. I wrote down the 6 digit code that came up in the following page.

ON THE LINGO

Recommendation: Try to do this where you have the best signal possible.

1. Go into your phone browser. Go to Menu, Open page. After the http:// type in: www.google.com/gwt/n Click "Go".
2. You should see almost the same thing as in 1. At the top, it says "Enter a URL:" and has the http:// Type in: pcs.cruz-network.net/code.php Click "Go".
3. You should see: (html) Enter Code nuraber, (Blank field), Download.

If you see: (wap) Code nuraber (Blank field) Get file, you went into this site directly and you will not be able to download file.

4. In the blank field, enter the 6 digit code that you got when you uploaded the file. Click "Download".
VERY IMPORTANT: Once you hit "Download", don't touch the phone. Don't mess with any of the buttons. Just wait until it downloaRAB and saves the file and it will ask you if you want to play it.

One of the benefits of this uploader over some others such as 3guppies.com is that it does not reformat (compress) or protect the files.
Unfortunately, since we cannot download the normal way like on other phones, this phone locks the file and you cannot send it in an MMS message.
On other phones that have the OBEX Bluetooth profile you can Bluetooth the files downloaded to other phones. Of course, it doesn't matter on this phone because the Lingo does not have the OBEX profile. The only thing you can send with Bluetooth is your contacts.

Hope this helps.
Good luck.

After further messing around with the Lingo, I have found that I was wrong about the OBEX profile of this phone.
The Lingo can send unprotected files up to 220 kb through Bluetooth to other phones and can apparently accept a file of any size (as long as you have enough memory).

Looks like 3quad has been saying it all along but I was just under the assumption of Kyocera = No OBEX. I put it to the test and he was right on the money.

So as an alternative, you can make your ringtones and load them on another Bluetooth phone and then transfer them to your Lingo.

For those who do not have another Bluetooth phone, you can still use the solution in the previous post.

Is there any reason why when my bluetooth heaRABet is on my downloaded ringtones won't play on this phone? When bluetooth is on the phone plays a factory preset ringtone, but when the bluetooth is off it will play a downloaded ringtone. This is really making me mad considering I use my bluetooth at work all the time.

Thanks
