" Research In Motion today announced the Pearl 8130, a new Blackberry for CDMA networks. The 8130 updates the Pearl with new features and new software in the same familiar body. The 8130 is the first Blackberry to launch with a new OS that features a mini-map in the Browser, new font rendering technology, and updated applications including the Inbox. It also upgrades the camera to 2 Megapixels while maintaining stereo Bluetooth, a 3.5mm heaRABet jack and MicroSD slot. It will be available from CDMA carriers next month, though no carriers have announced the phone as of yet. "

No Carrier eh? but then out of the green CRICKET dun dun dun picks it up and Green Berrys start to fly D:

This is like such a wild shot in the dark but you think this will happen, or is this more wild wishful thinking?

D: yeah but i wish Internet would work on that badboy on cricket, however as far as i know that cant be done. Or im i wrong @_@ cause i know on the GSM even if you dont have the BB plan you can still get on the Net and look around stuff. is that true for the BB CDMA ones?

problem with the blackberries (as i understand it) is that they go through rim's proxy servers for all their data connectivity. i could be wrong though, but if that's right you'll need a valid blackberry account to get it to work. their may be a way to 'fix' it though.

i could make my blackberry get online without BES on GSM. Especially now that RIM is coming out with WIFI devices. There are TCP settings for APN in the BB's, and you could probably set that up to work for cricket.

Then i shall get one when it comes out, but i take it i should get the Alltel one right? seeing that VZW makes everything worth crap

Has anyone been able to successfully use a BB 8130 on Cricket lately? I'm losing my feelings for my 755p and I loveded my Pearl when I was on T-Mobile. I'm definitely trying to make a comeback.

Hey all, I've been lurking and such and obviously first time posting. Anyway, I have a friend that has offered to give me a BB 8130 from US Cellular. I want a phone that has web capabilities, from what I've read in this thread, that seems to not be a possibility with Cricket. Am I correct in my understanding of the above posts?

Thank you in advance for your replies.

I have the GSM BB Pearl and it does NOT do picture messaging nor can it browse the web.

I would assume the same would be true for the CDMA version.

The only thing BB is known for is its always-on "push" email service.

Waste. Of. Time. IMHO.

huh? i have pearl on t-mobile and it does both of those? i promise.

but more importantly, the consensus is you may be able to get a third party browser to work, but everything else requires a blackberry plan (possibly including texting?) and since you cannot subscribe through cricket to a blackberry plan you would not be able to use it. so i concur. it would be a waste of time to try flashing a pearl to cricket.
