Right sided neck swelling. Horrible headaches. Thoughts?

Hello all. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I'm contemplating going to the ER in a few days if this keeps up.

For over two weeks, The RIGHT side of my neck has been swollen. No bruising or discoloration. This is accompanied by headaches running up the back of my neck with radiation to my eyes. The neck itself constantly feels sore. Like a pulled muscle. I'd say the soreness is a 3/10. The headaches are a 7/10. I work a 24 hour shift so my pain comes by mid-day, gradually increasing. Upon palpation, i can feel the path of pain the headache takes when im not having them. Massaging it seems to help for about 15 minutes. Sleep seems to help dimish the headaches, however occasiaonally i wake up with the headache. I'm 23 years old, in great shape, no medications, no allergies, no past medical history.

Have you pulled a muscle on that side of your neck that is causing you to favor that side? Do the headaches occur only on that side or are they on both sides of your head? Can you move your neck freely or are you hindered by the swelling and the pain? In other words do you feel that the swollen neck is causing pain and the heeadaches? Can you move your neck in all directions? Are your glands swollen also?

Welcome to the boards, rook2485!

I'd recommend calling your family doctor right away...they can determine if you need to go in immediately or can wait for an appointment.

Given the sudden onset of your symptoms, I think is may be important to report your experiences to your health care providers as soon as possible.
