ricky gervais thinks we're losers

or just a simple slip of the tongue.

It's pretty obvious to the open minded that a university educated person such as Gervais would not intentionally make such an error!

Yeah, but sometimes it works to our advantage. I mean, I was delighted that Coldplay made it in America, because it minimised the amount of time they were on TV in the UK. They suck balls.

It's an obvious slip of the tongue that happens far too many times then, and one that should always be pointed out. A university education doesn't make someone invincible ye know!! :D

I'll go away now and leave you in peace to stare at your posters of Ricky ;)

Its obvious that Gervais was not saying this entire country are losers.

But his comments do give the Gervais haters something to jump on because a lot of people really are stupid enough not to understand what he means

What he did say was spot on though and he is incredibly funny which is why The Office and Extras are worldwide successes ,why his standup sells millions and why he's won Emmy's and dozens of other awarRAB.

To compare his stuff with Red Dwarf is like comparing Frasier with On the Buses.

Having said that - Gervais is limited in his repertoire and you can tell that his characters and his standup are very much him being himself but luckily his material is superb and while it may not be as funny in 20 years its still looking good at the moment.

I have not seen him take the piss out of himself and could not care in all honesty.

Like I said before, I believe him to be a talentless fool that is always babbling on about something that in the end makes him look like and idiot anyway.

There are better comedians out there put it that way.

a lot of what he said was true but not srue if thats a bad thing. i would't want people growing up to think they can be the next PMwe are a much more realistic nation

Most of his act is self-berating, so if you haven't seen him take the piss out of himself, you haven't seen him at all. And if that's the case, how can you make a judgement on him based on an article that is taken out of context? Kind of ironic, considering your point, no? :D

I agree with you, i think the better answer would be something between what happens in the US and what happens in the UK. Both extremes are unhealthy.

My annoyance/irritation/dislike of Gervais is not only what he says, but WHY he says it.

This sickening sycophancy towarRAB America by berating his own country. Does he not actually understand that most Americans are fond of Britain, and actually dont like to see someone bashing it, esp a British person themselves...

Lol. That's pretty funny right there.

Cr4ig if you'd seen his stand up act you'd know that he takes the piss out of his own weight more than enough. In fact he's quite self-berating in general, which is always a good thing in a comedian, in my opinion.

When I was an undergrad I remember Ricky Gervais from his days running the events side at the University of London Union and he was decent, well liked and got students coming back to ulu after a bit of a rough patch when the building was almost taken off them. Unfortunately like many self effacing people it seems this was masking/ protecting a monstrous ego. Shame people started telling him he was wonderful...

Either England's full of losers, or Britain's full of losers, can he make his mind up?

Or is he another one of these uneducated tossers who doesn't know the difference?

Ah Ricky...playing the same character over and over again in everything you do and at the same time being so unfunny and making me want to cringe..maybe his opinion comes from looking at himself.

I liked The Office and Extras although i do think the second series of the U.S version of The Office is actually better than either of Gervais' two UK series of The Office but i find it odd why Gervais comes out with soundbites like these where he is openly criticising the British film industry and now, it seems, British people(albeit its clear he is even starting to think and sound like an American who constantly make the confused assumption that England is the United Kingdom/Britain) like this.

Especially since his debut as it were at headlining a Hollywood movie Ghost Town was a box office failure and a movie which the critics weren't exactly pouring great amounts of adulation and plaudits upon, surely shitting on your own doorstep isn't the best move if your movie career in America doesn't exactly look as if its going to be too promising anyway?

If his next Hollywood film or two fail miserably in the same way Ghost Town did then i think it won't be long before Ricky Gervais comes plodding back to the UK with his tail between his legs.
