ricky gervais just not funny

True and it would be a very boring world if it was the same but equally we all have a right to say that we don't like something and as with the others I'm just expressing my opinion.
 
And won countless awarRAB world-wide! As well as being lauded by numerous sucessful tv and film writers/producers etc (Groening, David, Stiller to name but a few). But I guess they are all being conned too!:rolleyes:

Like I said in the duplicate thread in the TV forum, if he's not your cup of tea, then fine. But stop coming on making stupid remarks about anyone liking him being morons, like your opinion is definitive- you're in the minority. The Office, was a massive success with relatively little hype- the first series was on Mondays on BBC2 and was not heavily advertised, it grew through word-of-mouth, in itself a sign of a genuinely quality programme.
 
The comedian I find completely unfunny is Armando Iannucci. I listen to his radio 4 show with a certain fascination (it's usually on when I'm driving) - is he going to say anything that will make me even smile? He never has yet. The other people on his shows are all quite funny, but he's not.

BTW, The episodes of Father Ted that I've seen weren't at all funny IMO. But I think Ricky Gervais is a comedy genius.
 
I strongly disagree, he may not be funny in films because he isn't allowed to fully express himself but when he roams free he is hilarious you jerk.
 
He sufferes from the same syndrome as Hugh Grant. i.e. whatever he's in its "Ricky Gervais playing Ricky Gervais" - even as a flipping pigeon in Valiant.

I found "Father Ted" hilarious. Completely off-the-wall inspired lunacy.

But Ricky Gervais just makes me feel uncomfortable and embarrassed for him.
 
Watched it tonight as I recorded it last night.

And I thought the last few years were low for the Simpsons. Obviously the main writers were off writing the film (Which was excellent) so left it entirely down to Gervais, needless to say, it was awful. The Character Gervais voiced was just him, and he isn't funny. Perhaps the characters he writes for the Office or Extras are to some people, but he isn't, as he shows on a fortnightly basis on the Jonathon Ross show. By far one of the worst episodes in Simpsons History.
 
But I don't see how that's a criticism when even some of the greats do the same thing.
Tony Hancock, Kenneth Williams, Frankie Howerd, they too would appear to be the same persona.

Some of them like to do multiple characters, some of them like to stick with just the one persona.

I think it's just a matter of choice really and what somebody chooses to do.

I don't think it's 'suffering' as you feel, but follows a bit of a tradition.

With Hugh Grant it's a probably bit different because he's an actor and it depenRAB on whether he wants to be seen to be versatile as an actor.
With a comedian or comic actor it's not quite the same thing.
 
Ricky Gervais is just a brilliant comedian. Never fails to amuse and is generally just funny in everything he does, hard to explain.

I agree with the Grahamster, you jerk :D
