ricky gervais just not funny

I just seen Ricky Gervais in Night at the museum and I just don't get him at all, unfunny, bad acting, ... I never really got his TV stuff either.
Is he really just a trendy con

What he has done with The Office/Extras was incredibly clever and very funny to a lot of people in an cringe-worthy way.

However, remembering what he did on the 11 o'clock show before The Office, was very similar to David and Andy. I've not seen A night at the Museum but I presume it's quite similar again. As was his appearance in Alias.

I quite like him and find when he's being himself (listen to his first series of his podcasts) with Stephen Merchant he was hillarious. Although, I can imagine he's not going to be everybody's cup of tea.

What on earth are you talking about? I responded to a particular point - which is allowed, ofcourse.

Why stick your oar in if the discussion wasn't going the way you'd like?

And for your information, I already gave my contribution re: Gervais.

Jeez!

I think the office is fantastic but don't rate his stand up stuff at all. There are far better out there.
Notice that he never takes part in any topical comedy shows.
I would say he is an excellent comedy script writer but not an improv. type comedian..

As for RG's stand-up stuff, I recall hearing him say that he was having pressure put on him to do a tour despite never having worked as a stand-up.

It shows.

I agree, he's great and I enjoy everything he does, don't think I'm getting at him.

My point is that when I watch him, to me he's always playing the character the same way. I believe him as that character, but it's still being played the same way to me.

Just like Ricky Gervais.

I agree 100% with you here. I am British but really don't get this type of humour. It's similar to the humour used in "Anchorman" and I didn't get that either. Definitely an acquired taste, one of which I don't particularly want to acquire. Much prefer a more obvious type of "silly" humour that doesn't make fun of people.

It really doesn't matter how much you personally dislike him, the fact is that the office was one of the most successful comedies of all time and it's made him an international superstar with the power to call on any number of the Hollywood elite to jump on a plane over to britain to do a bit part in a BBC comedy.

Not MUCH of a failure is it?
