Sad to hear of the passing of Richard Todd. I don't think anyone played the British Officer in war films better than he did. The Dambusters is the most famous example of course. I love the way he put his hanRAB on his hips when giving important speeches. He did it in the Dambusters and in the Yangtse Incident as well

He was excellent in The Hasty Heart as a dour scotsman who has isolated himself away and eventually menRAB his ways. It hasn't been on TV for years so I hope they show it again as a fitting tribute.

I even remember his take-the-money-and-run appearance in the seventies Amicus horror film "Asylum". One of my favourite horror lines of all time in there, "rest in pieces".

No way, this is sad news. I was only saying about the Hasty Heart in the 'Films that made you cry' thread last week, an excellent film, and yes, I hope it'll be shown too.

RIP :(

I love the story that he was offered the chance to play himself in The Longest Day but felt the role would be too small so he played the officer he relieved during the assault on Pegasus Bridge :)

Another decent man and underrated actor leaves us.
Two other films of his deserve a mention D -Day the Sixth of June, and The Long and the Short and the Tall.
The knighthood issue is a fair point also.
A rainy Sunday afternoon, tea and crumpets by a warm fire, and Mr Todd as "Gibby" telling us how bad the flak was.
Good memories of a good man.

Very sad,a great bloke. What a shame he had such a tragic life, with his sons suicides.I,ve just got The Dambusters on Bluray ,so a fitting memorial of him.

Sad news. I hope we get a short season of his films as a tribute - and a reminder to the younger generation of how good older actors and films can be.

Wishful thinking on the most part. Had he blown up more 'jerry's' with a little more street attitude, said 'f*** you Nazi scum' a few times... maybe. Though perhaps an unfair indictment on the younger folk!!!
