Groundbreaking black US comedian Richard Pryor has died after almost 20 years with multiple sclerosis.
He died at the age of 65 of a heart attack at Encino hospital near Los Angeles, his wife Jennifer Pryor said.

A series of hit comedies in the 1970s and 1980s - including Stir Crazy and Silver Streak - helped make him one of Hollywood's highest-paid stars.

He was one of the first black performers to have enough clout to negotiate his own Hollywood deals.

In 1983, he signed a $40m (

Anyone can be foul mouthed. Richard Pryor often had a story to tell that backed it up.

I think the last thing I saw him in was 'Lost Highway'.

He'll be missed. :(

I was so shocked when i heard on the news that he had died, i loved that actor he was fantastic and i loved the films he was in See no evil hear no evil and stir crazy.
Shame we have lost such a great talent :(

He truly was a comic genius and I wish I was young enough to have seen him perform live.

And sorry but I need to nitpick, he was in Superman III, not II!

10 million, 10 million, 10 million dollars.

Okay John Candy said that line, but Brewester's Millions was one of my fave films as a kid.

Not only did he pave the way for Black comedians, but he also crossed genres from adult orientated comedy to movies that were suitable for much younger audiences.

Loved the man, he was a legend his stand up routines were the best. Brewsters Millions and See no Hear No were my favourite films of his, I also thought he was brilliant in Harlem Nights with Eddie Murphy (my second favourite stand up comic)

RIP Richard Franklin Lennox Thomas Pryor III

His stand up was just superb. Right up there with the best. His movies were pretty much a result of that.

A true groundbreaking talent decades ago and a comedy great who will be missed by millions.

Fuzzy Wuzzy was a woman? is just one of the strange lines i remember from See no evil, Hear no evil (I think the line was actually said by Gene Wilder)

But that and many films by him are some of the funniest
