RIAA sucks nuts...

simmer down now. if you disagree with someone's opinion (outside of B&T) try to say so calmly and maturely. "WE'd had to see you get farmed for flaming outside of B&T"

displaimer: it's in quotes because i don't really mean it

Listen to Toast...his spleen does not lie, I should know...and the key words from your argument pretty much summarize the whole thing..."you'd love their OLD stuff." Everything past the black album just...well, it hurts to say it, simply b/c it is still hard for me to believe what they have done. Their early stuff made enough of an impression to hold their name out of the shit for Loaded and maybe even Reloaded. The S&M album was a fun experiment and to some extent, I think worked, but everything else I have heard them do is just plain.... crap

1. Settle down.
2. Don't flame the deceased.
3. Don't flame outside of Bait and Tackle.
4. Don't revive threads that are nearly a YEAR old to add this crap.

CNN removed the page. i think it's sad they randomly grab 477 people out of a crowd of millions to make an example of.

There is such a double standard in these laws. I know they're trying to protect their investments, but what makes this any different then me recording songs off the radio as we used to? 99% of the music being traded on the ineternet is far from CD quality. Most songs have skips or digital clink sounds in them. very few are above 128kbps because most people are too lazy to do CD quality rendering. CD quality songs are running about 600kbps stream and are about 8 megs. While the average mp3 is around 3megs.

I think the law states you can have one backup of any digital works. Including songs. I think if someone wants to loan that out to another, he or she has the right to. next, they will say its illegal for me to buy a CD and listen to it and then loan it to a friend to listen to.

Music has been playing for free on the radio for nearly a century. The way these musicians make the majority of their money is by doing live concerts. The only ones hurting from this are the recording studios who basicly steal monies from musicians. The musicians arent getting burned, its the RIAA. Unless you have a good recording contract and been around for a while. Like say.. Metalica?

I purchase music off http://www.allofmp3.com . Awesome value, about 5 cents per regular song, and low to high quality bitrate downloads in 4 different formats. If I buy something new, an album for say, 70 cents, and I'm liking what I'm hearing, I buy the actual compact disc (Biggest run-on sentence ever).

I'm pretty sure allofmp3 is illegal, but if I wouldn't have had quality samples of songs, I wouldn't have just dished out 15 bucks for a CD I knew nothing about, (Unless it was from I band I had previously liked, balalbalahaalabaha).

This DRM bullshit really gets on my nerves, I went to rip some shitty rolling stones CD to my laptop, and huh? iTunes doesn't reconize it? WTF? Turns out it had it's own little fucking retarded flash player included on the CD, with links to EMI everywhere.

Oh, you can rip it from there, you say? IT FUCKING RIPS TO WMA. If you have, or have every posessed ears, you will agree that WMA is the shittiest sound format known to man. Oh, and you can't copy the file more than 3 times?

Go to fucking hell EMI, RIAA, and DRM.

Actually, it's almost TWO years old.

If the members that recently posted before Uber can keep to the topic....

I wont bend you over and spit in your ass.

Carry on.

There is a great software (expensive.. about 5 hundred bucks) called Vegas Video (sony now owns it). You can adjust the kbps data rate to make the wma file more CD quality. But it will be higher then MP3. MP3 is still the best format.

I dont own an IPOD, but what formats do they run?

iPod's support MP3, AAC, WAV and AIFF.
AAC is superior to MP3, makes it sound like mud. and though Vorbis Ogg isn't supported for the ipod, it still beats the shit out of MP3.

I only meant in data rate and size. I tried doing Ogg and it was somewhat larger then MP3. But yes, Ogg and AAC are better formats. As you seem to understand that Mp3 is simply MPEG layer 3. There is only one codec for it. But AAC and Ogg have several codecs. Im not succesful with mine. Maybe you have one that shrinks the data rate better and has a much better quality then what I've experienced.
