I have! Loved it.

Hmm. Recasting for a remake? Very good question. I need to give it some thought before answering. :)

Maliejandra:I'm not an Ashley fan.I might be if I didn't love Rhett's character so much.We do seem to be in agreement though.We all think Rhett is perfect for Scarlett.

dixieland_dreamer:I agree GWTW is much better than it's sequel but the romantic in me wanted more than the ending of GWTW.So I'm glad they made a part 2.It's not as good but it makes me happy to see that R/S did end up together.

Scarlett and Rhett are my fave movie couple all time!!
Ofcourse the first movie/book is the best..Although I did like Scarlett, mainly because I wanted Scarlett and Rhett to end up together and I was always curious as to what would happen to them further on in their lives!
Nobody could beat Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable though!
Gable is SO incredibly charming...

I think it's not so much the "not liking"... I have the impression that many people have never read the book or seen the movie :shrug: Which is a shame. It's my all-time favorite book :nod:

RS are my all time favorite movie/book couple. Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh were amazing in the movie. They definitely had the crazy passionate, I'm in love with you but you drive me crazy chemistry needed.

I never read any of sequels, though I know how they end. I'm not really a fan of the idea that someone other than the original author would write a sequel for such an epic book. But I was really happy that in all the sequels they end up together. I mean, how could they not?

Wow, those are all really good choices!!

For Scarlett, perhaps Rose Byrne could be among the choices, as well. She's very gorgeous in the way that Vivien Leigh was, but she also plays feisty characters very well...I think you nailed it with George Clooney, though. He and Gable have a similar look and style. :)

Ahhh, I love these two. They are smokin'. :D I've never read the book, but I've seen the movie a few times and love them. I really do need to read the book, though, I keep hearing how fabulous it is.

Rhett & Scarlett. Scarlett wasted so much time pining after Ashley, when the perfect man for her was right under her nose.

To me, GWTW is much better than its sequel, although the romantic in me didn't like the end of R/S in GWTW.

I liked the mini-series and the book (sequel) even though Im a HUGE fan of the original. I have watched it countless times and I own it on 3 DVDs. But the sequel did a fine job as well. Yes Clark and Vivien are the epitome of chemistry but I needed a happy ending desperately and the film delivers it so beautifully. :sigh:
 
My sis has the movie on VHS and I will prob get it for my birthday and I still have to read the second book.

I remember when there was talks a while about about the book Scarlett and the idea of remaking a movie.

I know it's next to impossible to re-create such a dazzling film! But for fun, if you had to cast the roles for Rhett and Scarlett who would you pick?

Well for Rhett it would have to be someone older who could pull off that sarcasm.

My first thought?

George Clooney. I know, it's strange, but I think he'd be perfect. If you've seen him in O Brother Where Art Thou and Out of Sight, you'll notice his great range. Man, that film Out of Sight has Clooney at his most charming. A really underrated, but addictive movie.


For Scarlett? That's even harder! Who could play this feisty southern belle?
Well, I'm imagining someone a bit younger, since in the book Scarlett and Rhett were kind of distant in age. It was the 1800s, so young bride/older man wasn't unusual.

Well, the only one I can think of right now is Charisma Carpenter.
I only say this because I noticed how well she made the whole transition of Cordelia from Buffy to Angel. I really grew to love her, and even in the beginning (despite her snotty behavior), you could tell she wasn't all that bad.

Now for Ashlee Wilkes?

LOL. I don't know why, but I pictured Chad Michael Murray. He's cute, and I could easily see girls falling for him.

That's all I could muster for now...

I'm reading the book right now. I'm on pg. 428 although I'll end up reading a bunch more tonight. I fell in love with the movie and can really relate to Scarlet like I'm sure many girls can. Clark was perfect as Rhett. I'm not really sure about my feelings on the subject. I love Ashley, almost more than Rhett. But I think Rhett is perfect for Scarlet. I tend to associate Ashley and Rhett with people in my life and that is why it is harder for me to like him, but I'm warming up to him more and more. Pretty soon I'll be swooning like the rest of the world (although I still love Ashley).
