I had a letter from the hospital today saying that a blood test id had done 3months ago has come back showing that im 'A Rhesus D Negative'.
What does this mean? Ive been given an appointment for more blood tests, and an anti D injection - whats this?
Ive tried reading the leaflet that was put in the letter but i cant get my head round it, i dont understand.
Can anyone explain it in easy terms for me? Im not thick so please dont talk to me like i am, im just very upset because it seems like everything is starting to go wrong in the pregnancy now, and im really worried and scared.
Thanks
im 30weeks on monday

Hi.... don't worry, there's nothing to worry about. I was also Rhesus negative and had to have anti-D. You don't have to have the anti-D injection but it is advised. It's just incase some of your babies blood cells escape and mix with yours, your immune system will create a defence against your baby and will begin trying to fight your baby. The anti-D injection puts a coate around your babies blood cells so if any were to escape, no defense would be formed and baby would be safe. Is that any clearer to you?

The anti-D injection is in your thigh, it stings a little but its fine. When you give birth your baby's blood will be tested, if it's the same as yours you will not need another injection, if baby's blood is positive you will need another anti-D injection.

I'd advise you to get the anti-D. Ask your midwife at your next app. and she'll explain in more detail. You will be given the anti-D at 28 weeks (I think). If you have any bleeding or spotting, you need to contact your GP or hospital immediately, just to be safe :) good luck xx
