revolutionary road

I saw it this morning! Good acting I suppose but the film just left me cold. Just not my thing perhaps but a film about a couple not getting along is never going to particularly exciting.

I can't wait to see Revolutionary Road, I think it looks fantastic. Looks like my sort of film. The book its based on is supposed to be fantastic too, and I'm quite surprised I've not read it before.

Richard Yates.

Well, I saw it yesterday, and I have to say, its MUCH more than a film about a domestic. I'm going to spoiler my review in case it gives away too much for those who haven't seen it, although I won't be giving away vital plot points:

Its a critique on the inset culture of 1950s America, of the sexism displayed in the shock at the suggestion a woman support a man. An exploration of the emptiness, the soullessness of suburbia and a tragic reminder that if you keep putting off your dreams they'll get further out of reach, if you don't actively follow them, they'll simply fade away.

I loved it. The performances were nothing less than extraordinary, Leo and Kate (particularly Kate) were breathtaking. Kate Winslet is the best actress working in film at the moment.

She's nominated in the Best Actress (not supporting) in both the BAFTAs and Oscars for her part in the Reader.

I do find it surprising that she hasn't god a nod for Revolutionary Road - imo, the best performance by an actress in a LONG time, and far superior to Jolie's in Changeling. But there you go ...
