Reving on Honda Prelude?

Everytime you do that, your engine wants to kill you.

Free revs on an engine with no load is just as bad as pouring water in the gas tank instead of gas.

Everyone thinks its cool until your smoke your crank and cam bearings.

Its difficult to know exactly why it has changed what its doing.

You don't say if it has a VTEC engine or not.

I am not aware of any Preludes having Launch control, you would have a button that says so or there would be something in the manual about it if it did. I am certain that your friend is wrong.

There is a reason that most Hondas don't rev more than a certain amount if you are not in a gear, and that is for self protection, as the other posters have said. The shaky you describe is probably the rev limiter stopping the revs going any higher, its a good idea not to do this.

So I was reving on my 97 Honda Prelude (Semi-Auto) and I noticed something different from before.

I set the tranny on neutral and step on the brakes. then I rev.

The car only lets me rev up to 5000rpm, after that car gets shaky. It won't let me go past 5rpm.

After I let go of the brakes, car jumps forward (accelerates forward).

Before I can rev up to 7-8rpm, no problem.

I haven't done anything to the car, its bone stock. I just need to do a oil change (since its time to do one).

My friend said that my car has launch control, which I didn't even know about or even had.

Any suggestions? Opinions?
