Reviewing the VIP Trunk

Hello all,

I see that there have not been an abundance of pics posted here.
I will share the pics of my installation of a VIP Trunk that I purchased on E-Bay for as little as $ 60. I wish I had continued to scroll down the page on E-bay to see that these were as low as $60. I paid double that...Yes I feel stupid.

I would like to answer some of the questions I see posted here. Quality...Well I have seen trunks that are constructed of plastic resin at least three times as thick as these...Of course they were police trunks and cost at least $600 with nothing in them. no mounting hardware nothing.

As for this box I like it. I have added some weather stripping with adhesive around the trunk lid, as it does rattle without it. The LED lights that come in this trunk SUCK! The LED lights in the spoiler are the only ones that light in a steady fashion as brake lights...and no they are not bright at all. the tail lights/marker lights are not bad in the dark but are nearly invisible during the day. Did I mention that the LED lights that come with this trunk Suck!!!

All is not lost. I added two Whelen Super LED "Hide-Away" Lights in from the rear of the tail light assemblies, used the "Scan-lock" feature to set them on the "Steady Burn" mode. You see these are normally used as warning lights on emergency vehicles, and oh boy are they bright!

I am adding pics. There are two inside the trunk (which has lots of room inside). One of them is of the Back of the LED Inserted through the housing into the light assembly. the other shows the trunk with some junk in it and the fuse panel, relay and Streamlite polystinger that I added these are not included with the trunk.( I have a rubber band holding the polystinger in the charger because I live on a bumpy dirt road in S. Georgia.

You will notice in the pic with the brake lights on that there are two other very bright LED lights one on either side of my tag. These too are Whelen emergency vehicle lights set to steady burn and wired into the brake light circuit.

Crap.....I will have to add a second post with the other pics. anyway here ya go

I look forward to you're comments.

Hello again,

on these pics, the one with the trunk closed shows the tail lights "on", the other one shows the Whelen LED installed through the back of the light assembly of the trunk. (sorry this one is a bit blurry).

I agree, I don't know how the spring and fall are where you live, but here the mornings can be brisk while the evenings are still hot. With just the saddle bags I did not have room for my rain gear, lunch and work clothes (shorts, steel toed tennis shoes etc) and then to pack my jacket for the ride home. With the trunk I do, plus I gained the addition of a rechargeable flashlight, should I need it. The relay is to control the flashlight charger, only allowing it to charge while the ignition is on, and the fuse panel because it is a good idea. It also protects the cirucits for my heated gloves and bootwarmers for winter.

Thank you, If I only had more time and money.....I would add the lightbar, the mustang seats and backrest, though the "BackUp" backrest is great it does nothing for my butt. My commute is 61 miles each way.

Just need a mount. OEM, luggage rack such as Grandpatractor has or make your own as I did.

BTW, it is not true that the lighted spoiler will not fit with the luggage rack. It does if you put 3/4" spacers with it. I thought about letting Matazu know that but thought "why should I share something with them that is so obvious?"

Here is how I mounted mine.I didn't have to drill any holes in the suzuki rack.

Man I wish we had something like this Internet when I was growing up......................................................................................................................................................................................................... I could have saved hundreds of man hours, and thousands of dollars................................................. instead I just had to figure out stuff for myself.:banghead:

Yep, it probably all worked out on the wash.
I paid $0 shipping and ordered from within Canada which meant no duty charged to me by the Canadian Government.

Either way, I'm satisfied.
I'd LOVE the hardbags and trunk Corbin makes, but 3 grand is pretty steep!!!

Yeah, hell for $6 grand USD, I could have a front faring, trunk and saddlebags.

Still cheaper than buying a Wing, but MAN that's a bunch of $$$
