Review your favorite book for me?

I'm looking for a good book with these requirements.
-not a vampire book. I'm very tired of those
-no dragons or pigs or gnomes or whatever. enough magic.
-no war historical books. those depress me and bore me simultaneously.
-I love Tim Burton films. Anything with a EXCITING historical aspect, or a suspense or horror-esque ness of it is great.
-Romantics are great.
-you can always list a few!

"Coraline" was a wonderful book. It's very suspenseful and it has some horror parts in it. It's not that long and Tim Burton made a movie out of it.

Also, "A series of unfortunate events" was a grand book too. It's very suspenseful.
 
The Host by Stephenie Meyer. yes its by the Twilight writer, but it is not a vampire book! i like twilight, but this is her best book :)
 
Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

It's about a 16 year old girl, Katniss, who has to fight for her life because she is entered in the Hunger Games. The Hungry Games competitors are form the 12 poor districts to entertain the 1 rich one to show that they won the war. It is board casted and it is the fight until death last one alive wins the games. It has a little romance in it and is action filled. Beautifully written.
