Can't wait! Don't think I've ever enjoyed a film as much (and I'm a huge Tolkien fan so was very nervous about watching this series) and was totally blown away by it at the cinema. Just got to decide whether to splash out on the beautiful collector's edition or not now.

The 14th of December is cutting it fine, if they under-estimate the number of sales then it will leave a lot people annoyed who might want to buy if for someone as a christmas present. I guess pre-ordering is a must with this DVD!

Why did they move the EE to a later date and the SE to an earlier date? Usually they brought out the SE in Aug and the EE in Nov, but for this one its was May and Dec! WHAT??!?!?

SO.... 4 hours and 16 minutes! YAY!

I'm sooo glad the EE is coming out soon, been waiting ages for this release, i was beginning to think i'd have an incomplete collection.
Seems strange that you can't pre-order the gift set OR the EE on Play yet though

Apparently, there WILL be a box set of all extended editions, planned for May 2005.
Plus, it is rumoured that it may have additional scenes on an extra disc.

What? More scenes from the films or more extras. I've loved the extended versions so far but I can't imagine they would put extra bits of the film on a separate disc. I suppose they could be deleted scenes.

Yep, deleted scenes.

I can imagine some enterprising DVD whiz figuring out a way to insert those scenes into the films... apparenly they shot hours and hours of good stuff that just couldn't even make it into the EEs.

Although, imagine this. 20-25 years time. LOTR
