Retaking a couple of classes, my 12th grade year? GPA?

Do I have to go to summer school in order to retake a class?

I got a D and an E in Spanish 2, my 10th grade year.

I didn't take Spanish 3 my 11th grade year, so I want to just

take Spanish 2 again, in order to improve my GPA, which is now a 3.31.

But would this not work since, college applications should be

turned in the second semester of your senior year?
