Restoring a bicycle. Need help with the paint?

To get the best out of it.
You first need a primer paint which is traditionally grey (you may need to slightly key he surface of the frame) with very fine sand paper, then add a one then a few hours later a second coat of primer, then at least 24 hrs later put on first coat of top paint, then leave a few hours, then add last coat.

Spray paint will be fine.

i am planning to strip down an old bike then build it up again cleaning and painting it. I want paint the frame myself and wandered how long the paint would last on the outer coat before it started chipping or peeling. I was going to use spray can paints, are there more ideal paints out there which would prevent that from happening or can i buy some sort of sealer/protector to spray on. I do not want to buy a air compressor.

After you have stripped and sanded all the rough spots take it to you local car paint shop and see what they are painting today. They will likely slap a coat on for free if not just a few bucks.

For BEST results, do not do it yourself. You take strip all the parts off, etc. That would help. Once everything is off, a good shop will charge between $75 to $110 to sandblast, paint and/or powder coat it & clear coat it.
