And MDs and JDs don't count, I suppose (although JDs rarely, if ever,
use "Dr." in their title).

What a maroon - veterinary surgeons and dentists have post docs out
the ears.

Sure you do.

Haven't you ever been reimbursed for a meal? I certainly have. If
she pays for the meal, she's a customer - it doesn't matter if she's
reimbursed for it or not. Yes, her job is to write restaurant
reviews; but I don't think that's a bad thing. The whole idea of
going incognito is so she won't be given special treatment and have
the same general experience that you and I would have if we were
customers. Being refused service and having my picture plastered all
over the internet isn't what I'd expect.

No, it probably isn't expected. Restaurant reviewers like to drop their
bombs in anonymity. She got outed.

I don't think she was trying to say that Boron. She did not say the
thread was OT, she said it was filled with redundancies. She
indicated that she was moving on, but if there was a sudden turn of
events she didn't want to miss it. No biggie. I didn't read it as a
criticism, just a comment.

PS: I've never seen you or Dave so feisty before! You two must be
punch drunk by now.

I thought it was criticism, and deserved. There *is* a lot of
repetition in the thread. A lot of it has to do with the intention of
the reviewer. I participated also, but it really doesn't matter. She
was booted out without eating there. It doesn't matter a lot what her
intention was, she had no dining experience to review anyway!

This whole thread has really opened my eyes, though. What *is* the role
of anonymity in restaurant reviews? There's good and bad. I don't know
what is best.

It's possible to set up one Windows computer to act as a router
for a second Windows computer, thus sharing a connection.

(It may not be a convenient thing to do on the spot, but it's
a possibility.)

Some frequent travelers just bring along a router with them.

Heh heh....

I can relate, also being retired for 10 yrs from a high paying job and
having enjoyed fine cuisine at overpriced restos. OTOH, I jes spent
almost $15 for veggie soup. Fortunately, it was homemade, excellent,
and yielded over 3 qts! That's why we're here, right!? ;)

It's called evidence.
Do you feel this way about restaurant reviewers in general or is it
just her? Have you read her reviews and eaten at the restaurants
she's reviewed? I'd never heard of her before this and don't visit
Los Angeles very often.

As was pointed out previously, Americans do not expect their
restaurant reviewers to be treated any differently from themselves.
We consider it useless information if a restaurant review was written
by a well known reviewer who got start/celebrity treatment.
