resistant to anesthesia injections

I am soon to have a procedure that will include a topical analgesic and then an injection to assure a pain-free situation. The problem is.... I have a history of resistance to this type of pain management, for example, I've had procedures done to my eye lid, nasal passages, urethra, foot, hand, etc. all of which turned disastrous. Typically I will explain my "history" to the doctor who then invariably says I've been doing this for _ years and it's painless. The topical goes on and then they start to work which may or may not include additional injection for pain. The topical won't work so I cry out with the injection. Then the injection won't work and I have been known to faint from the pain of the subsequent procedure. Here's my question: anyone with similar situation who has figured out how to get the point across to docs, for them to see you as an individual? Thanks so much. I rarely look to forums for help.

Hi, Isn't that the weirdest thing. I went through labor with the anesthesia failing on and off throughout the 17 hours. It was mostly the left side of my body, so I was feeling most of the labor. I also had eye surgery, and the same thing happened. I was feeling the procedure. I returned to get eye stitches out and again same thing. I could feel every pull of thread. I told them to proceed because I have a high tolerance for pain, but they stated that the stitches would dissolve within time. They asked me if I had done illicit drugs, but I hadn't. I have recently been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis which is an autoimmune disease. My own immune system is destroying my nerves (Central Nervous System). I'm going to ask my neurologist if the two are related because once nerves are damaged they begin sending mixed/missed signals and that causes pain. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help. Hope you find an answer.

I did "wake up" but remained paralyzed during dental surgery... very traumatic. But I have had many operations/procedures requiring a general and everything went fine. No, it's just with those things that are outpatient and relatively quick but the docs know will be painful without a bit of help. It's just that what they consider quite sufficient doesn't even come close for me. I'm just trying to find out if there is some way to word the problem.... that will make them take notice, take me seriously.
Thanks for your interest.
