Resistance vs Gears of War.

Eh, I wouldn't say they're new. However, it's somewhat new to a single game.

It also does them better than anyone's done before. Which is what I don't get about everyone's complaining.... "Nerrrrr it's nothing new, nerrrrr...". Well, those of you who say that need to get a clue. Games are nothing but rip offs of each other. There hasn't been a new completly original game genre in years. All game developers have is taking something someone else has done, adding to it, and making it fun. Which is exactly what Gears of War has done, and has done it's beyond exceptionaly well.
 
Shotgun... machine gun with grenade launcher... rocket launcher... flame thrower... gun that deploys shields and fires projectiles which bore through all physical structure... gun which fires tracer 'tags' which all subsequent projectiles seek in a deadly ballet of doom...
 
I love how the fanboys try to make excuses why someone can possibly dislike the game they happen to be sackriding.

I have gears, i bought it based on the hype, but i am rather hugely disappointed in it. I couldnt force myself to play past the 3rd chapter in single player, and the multiplayer is already stale.

It doesnt really do anything BADLY (though i think the "one-button-for-everything" control scheme is pretty piss poor), but it doesnt do anything remarkable either.

The gameplay is barely different from any other decently executed 3rd person shooter (and it doesnt play much different from most FPS either). You can LIKE the game, but claiming any different is pure blind fanboyism at its worst.
 
Yeah, all those reviews out there by professionals are completly false, the game isn't remarkable at all....

Hmmmmm, the opinon of a majority of the gaming comunity, or your opinion.... Hmmmm pretty sure the gaming community wins.
 
I think Resistance is overrated. The main reason it gets so much praise, is because all the other games on the PS3 right now, are mediocre to down right shitty. It becomes "the PS3 game to get" by default.

And you saying it doesn't play much different than any other FPS is asinine. It's not even close to being like Halo, Half-Life, Unreal Tournament, Rainbow Six, Deus Ex, Counter Strike, Socom, etc. Whether you like/enjoy the game or not....is on you. I can't help if a person has shitty taste or not, or has fun playing a game. But to claim it's BARELY different than any other 3rd person shooter....wow, that's just pure ignorance.
 
Resistance > Halo < GoW

Gears of War is just a bad ass game. Yes, the graphics are phenominal, but to be honest with you, the game is so good you completely forget how awesome they are, they just immerse you in the world.

Truly just an amazing game and you can tell a LOT went into the making of it.

I've never been really impressed w/ Halo. You're more or less this impervious tank of a man who goes through levels blowing shit up and you have no real reason to not just go in firing, die, respawn an do it again. At least Resistance makes you try a little harder. I havn't played a ton, I have so many games from christmas and I keep bouncing around from game to game, I havn't even played online yet which I imagine is awesome.
 
I disagree though. Gears brings many new things to the table...that haven't been done in a shooter, or done as well. It excels in areas that so many games have failed in before. It's incredibly polished. Resistance really brings nothing new to the table (minus maybe the Bullseye, and Auger)....it's just a decent/standard twitch FPS game. The graphics are nothing to write home about, the sound is meh, the gameplay is rehashed and plain, etc. I'm not saying it's a bad game, it's not. It's just severely overrated...and only tagged as the PS3's "killer app" because of the rest of the PS3's library being shitty. Gears on the otherhand...is very deserving of all the praise it gets, and thensome.
 
Online is a big part for me. It gets boring once you beat a game and all you can do is play it over and over on a different skill level or something. That is why resistance imo is funner to me. The online play for resistance is so much better than GOW. i am not sack riding either i have both games.
 
Eh, unless it's Halo, I could give a shit about online. That's what my PC is for. Because chances are someone else modded HL 2 or something and did it better.

Man I can't wait for TF2, it looks so fucking sweet.
 
Your theory of run in, die, and respawn may be true in the single player mode but I disagree with it in online slayer. The amount of times you die and how many people you kill are both reflected on how your team does which directly effects your overall score. The more you die, the worse your team does, the worse you do... so that was incentive enough for me back when I was trying to make it from level to level online.
