Resident Evil: Afterlife.

I've seen this now. I'd give it 7/10, about the same as the first film and better than the second and third. It had just the right amount of plot, mixed in with a lot of stylish fighting, slow-motion, and beautifully composed shots. Often very Matrix-like.

I'm conflicted about the exuberant 3D. It often contributed to the wonderful images, but I also found it distracting. It is not understated - Resident Evil is not a franchise about subtlety - but it worked better than in, say, Final Destination 3D. I'd have preferred it to be 2D. I approve of 3D in theory but in practice I've not yet seen a film that was improved by it. I am not an ideal viewer because I have to wear the 3D glasses over the top of optical glasses, so your experience may vary.

terribly directed and acted

the main villain was probably the most wooden actor i have ever seen

haha and if you played all the slow motion at the right speed this film would have lasted about 10 minutes

Saw it this afternoon. Quite liked it for what it was. Bit silly but visually very good.

I can only assume, by the final scene that ..

they had already been greenlit for part 5 ?. I don't think i've ever seen a film leave itself so blatantly open for a sequel for ages. I know "Salt" was a similar final scene, but this was much more blatant - I almost expected to see 'to be continued ..' on the screen ..

I agree with all of this. The 3D wasn't bad but I wish I had the option to watch it without the 3D and without the slo-mo intending to highlight the 3D.

All of the Resident Evil films end like that.

1. Alice waking in the hospital.
2. Alice's clone waking in the hospital.
3. Alice finding her clones.
4...

To be honest, I can't remember the ending of 2 and i've managed to purge 3 from my brain as it was so shit.

But part 1 i do remember - the scene where she woke up in the hospital and walked out into the city, and the camera pulled back.

That worked as a, for want of a better word, "closed" ending - you're left with seeing the devastation all around her and it doesn't necessarily suggest anything else is going to happen.

Part 4, however, enRAB in such a way as you almost think it's going to throw to an advert break and come back when it all kicks off .. and bringing back Jill Valentine mid-credits as well ..

The only other films I can think of that ended in such a way were the Lord of the Rings films, but only because you knew it was a trilogy anyway ..

Loved Wesker in this, thought he was just like the one in the game personality-wise. I'd give it a 7, it's probably the best of the Resi's but then again that's not really saying much.

Saw Afterlife last night and thought it was good mindless fun but the 3D didn't really add much imho and doubt I'd ever bother to watch it again.

Resident Evil - 7/10
Apocalypse - 6/10
Extinction - 4/10
Afterlife - 5/10

I quite enjoyed it :) I'd never seen a RE film before.
It was often very Matrix like - especially the beginning and the final act, could the main baddie have been more Agent Smith-like? :D

I really enjoyed watching this movie. Its definitely the best of the series so far. It had alot of action and was balanced with comedy and drama. Also making it consice in terms running time and dialogue, i feel really helped too. Plus the IMAX version, i felt added another quality to the film, which surprised me.
