requiem for a dream

Finally got to see this film last night.
Quite depressing, but enjoyable film... Have any of you checked out the website? I am guessing it is pretty old, but still quite freaky, in the donnie darko way requiemforadream.com methinks.

What are your opinions on the film, and do you think it is underrated like many of the films of its style?

W.

As I remember it is slightly cut for the UK versions to give it the 18 certificate.

I remember seeing it on ITV Digital PPV (looong time ago!).

I think Ellen Burstyn should have got the Oscar instead of Julia Roberts... IMO of course!

It was very good, very strong, depressing, moving in parts too. I bought the unrated DVD from the US after I saw it on PPV.

The score is very fitting to the film, a little repetitive in places.
I am not sure which version I saw, it seemed fitting of an 18, with that scene at the end with the two girls
Quite a sad film really, nobody does well out of it

yep, the last half an hour or so is very intense! good film, wont watch it again too soon though ;) and JC was looking lovely at the start of the film, not usually a fan

you are kidding right!! thats an awful scene

That scene epitomised the film, individuals being completely helpless to affect the path set from earlier actions. As for being awful, no, it was very well acted and directed.

The Electrotherapy scenes are still to be surpassed by other films for shockingness (sorry)

yes thats what i meant, its not a scene though that any "normal" person could take pleasure from watching...

if anyone watched it for the "double ended thingies" :p then they would come away feeling quite sick....

lol 'acted' - is that the correct word? The last part of the film was really good, with a certain theme of desperation and loss, really leaving you with a hollow feeling :( - I won't be putting any of that stuff in my arm anytime soon :p

I just finished watching this for the first time. I was completly silent through the entire credits as the sound of the beach washed around the room in surround sound...

A very moving film, and i urge everyone to watch it. Not nessesarily for entertainment values, but its a great film for perhaps educating people. The score is PERFECT and i just cant stop whistling the string quartet part of it at the moment. The surround sound is also very well done and helps give the film the perfect mood. Its quite chilling how in the end no one enRAB up in a good situation.

The final 10 minutes or so had me totally fixated on the screen, it really did grab your attention (and no not just because of the *ass to ass* scene :D) but seriously, there were so many sudden cuts you just couldnt look away. Powerful!

The Sara Goldfrapp actress was absolutly amazing, she could pull so many emotions through that film, it was brilliant. Everyone else was great too. I knew I recognised JC, and now i know where, she was Sarah from Labrynth :D

Anyway, if you have not seen this film yet, go out and rent it NOW!

It was a good five minutes after the titles rolled that anyone spoke. What a powerful film - brilliantly acted and directed. A dark film to be recommended to everybody.
Darren Aronofsky does it again - I really didn't think he could outdo Pi, but he certainly did. So, now we wait for Flicker.

The soundtrack is supposed to mirror the 4 seasons of the year that the film is divided into. Thats why it sounRAB a bit repetitive, though none of it is actually repeating as such.

One of the best films ever made.
Btw its Sarah Goldfarb
not Sarah "I'm in love... I'm in love" Goldfrapp !!! :P

I've put this in another thread before but for anyone interested who didn't already know. The score was written by Clint Mansell, former front man of Pop Will Eat Itself.

It was rerecorded for The Two Towers.

Old Clint Poppie has come a long way.
