The Republican National Convention has delayed most of its convention proceedings until Tuesday afternoon because of Tropical Storm Isaac’s severe weather, which is expected to reach the Florida’s Gulf Coast starting late Sunday.
GOP officials announced late Saturday that they would open the convention on Monday morning and immediately recess until Tuesday afternoon. Officials from the Republican National Committee and Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign decided unanimously on Saturday afternoon to postpone proceedings after consulting with Florida Gov. Rick Scott, the U.S. Secret Service and federal, state and local emergency management officials.

“Our first priority is ensuring the safety of delegates, alternates, guests, members of the media attending the Republican National Convention, and citizens of the Tampa Bay area,” Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said in a memorandum Saturday evening.
In a statement to reporters, Priebus added, “We are optimistic that we will begin an exciting, robust convention that will nominate the Romney-Ryan ticket.”
Romney tweeted Saturday night, "The safety of those in Isaac's path is of the utmost importance. I applaud those in Tampa making appropriate schedule changes."
Russ Schriefer, a senior strategist for the Romney campaign overseeing the convention program, said officials were working to move Monday’s scheduled speakers onto programs for the following three days.
“We will absolutely be able to get our message out,” Schriefer told reporters Saturday night.
The roll-call vote that will make Romney’s nomination official, planned for Monday night, will now occur on Tuesday, Schriefer said.
