Albino Burmese Python , 8 feet long, that escaped it's enclosure, slithered into the child's room, bit her head repeatedly, and squeezed her to death? The girl was two years old. The owner of the snake( the Mom's live in boyfriend) said the snake had escaped twice already that night. What a horror story.
It happened about 35 miles north of Tampa yesterday.
The snake died ..the owner was hacking at it with a meat clever to try to get it off the girl...but his other snakes were removed from the house.
It said in the paper the owner put a heavy quilt over the snake's enclosure and tied it. No lock or anything. The snake just slithered out.

Yes. It's a tragedy and a prime example of an idiot that will give another black eye to reptile hobbyists nationwide. I was glad to read that the snakes were being taken to someone with experience and the proper permits, rather than just being put down.

As with most injuries or deaths by captive reptiles this was completely the result of bad husbandry. In FL owners of burms are required to have permits, this guy didn't have one. One of the stories I read stated that he had put the burm in a snake bag inside a glass aquarium. The snake should have been in a large, solid, locking enclosure. Had it been properly housed this never would have happened.
