Replacing save batteries in Gameboy games?

I've been playing yellow version on my gameboy and got far into the game. I turn it off to go eat and when I come back the data is gone. This really ticked me off, I have read about replacing the save batteries in the game cartridge but I have no clue what to do at all. Help?
