the data plan? I currently have a Verizon non-smartphone with voice/text plan. I am looking to get a smart phone with wifi (omnia) from eBay.
Will Verizon require me to purchase the $29.99 plan to start using my new phone?

I am not planning to use the internet/data on the wireless network. I would use internet/data from a wifi hot spot so I don't need the wireless data plan.

Will they still require me to get the data plan?
 
Well you certainly don't need the data plan if you'll be using Wi-Fi only. I don't think they can force you to get a data plan unless you are on a contract.
