hey guys...i need help asap. i lost both of my keys (long story). i need advice on how to get them replace. my dealer said i have to get a new a ignitions which is like 300. is that true?

ok so i talked to another dealer. they suggest i call locksmith and have them key it out. so im wondering if the ignitions, tank, and seat cowl locks all have the same rollers. because if it does i can just take the seat cowl lock and go to them. any1 knows? greatly appreciate it.

I think you need the original key ordered from Ducati. Doesn't it have a chip inside to disable the anti theft engine immobilizer? Did you get a key card, with the key code on it, when you purchased the bike?

The 1098 has an ignition immobilizer system, to prevent start-up theft. If both keys are lost, you should take the small ID tag that was affixed to them when you purchased the bike (you did put that in a safe place, separate from the keys, didn't you?) and your Code Card (black card that came with the keys; has the electronic and mechanical codes listed on the back) to your Ducati Service Center and they can obtain and program new keys for you. (Reference: pages 36-37 of the 1098 MOM)

ok so i sorted everything out today. what a pita.

The small ID tag is the mechanical code. Its also on the code card. Its useless. The service said they cant cut the keys with that code. I have to have the original key in order to have the new keys cut. The electrical code is to override the immobilizer and let the bike temporary starts. I had a locksmith come and made me the mold for the key. It works, now all i need is to order new blank black keys and have it cut by the locksmith and have service program the chip. They said it will take a week for the keys to arrive. Im not too sure that it will come in a week. I ordered stuff from Ducati before, took like 3 weeks. :/ Anybody have a blank key I can buy. I sorta dont trust ebay for this kinda thing.
